I have been checking out the Holmes rootsweb for about 2 months now, hoping to find a connection to my g-g-grandfather. Thus far nothing has appeared. I am searching for any information anyone may have on Shadrack Holmes, born c.1788 in South Carolina. He moved to Hart County, Ga. (just over state line) around 1860. I found him on the 1870 Census with wife and children, the oldest of which was born in 1860. I know he died between 1871 and 1879. As he would have been about 62 when he moved to Georgia, I am assuming he had a family in S.C. before relocating here. I have been told, but cannot confirm anywhere, that his father's name was Gideon Holmes and that Gideon and Shadrack are on the 1830 S.C. census but I don't know in which county and thus far have been unable to find either of them. If anyone out there has any info on Shadrack Holmes, such as parents, siblings, location in S.C. or anything else at all, I sure would appreciate some help. Sandra Holmes Parker [email protected]
