I recently obtained records from the National Archives regarding this Civil War soldier, who is now my oldest Holmes ancestor. He died on June 14, 1862 from wounds received near Harrisonburg Virginia. It appears that he and his wife Laura Louise Barber (m. Sept 30, 1848, Portville, Cataraugus County, NY, d. January 22, 1900, Kings Run, PA) had possibly five children each of whom was born in the Cataraugus County, NY/McKean County, PA area: Elba DeForest Holmes, b. June 22, 1849 Mary Esther Holmes, b. February 22, 1851 Irene Geneva Holmes, b. April 18, 1853 James Holmes, b. ????**The records are unclear re this child. Blanche May Holmes, b. May 13, 1857 Among the National Archives Records is a letter requesting information on Frederick dated in 1929, from Florence Holmes, wife of Earle D. Holmes. She must have been doing genealogy research on her husband's family. She was from Casper, Wyoming. It appears that Earle D. Holmes is a cousin of mine. Any information regarding Frederick Clinton Holmes, any of his children, or Florence (Mrs. Earle D.) Holmes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Christopher W.
