Hello, I would be grateful for any information concerning John HOLMES, a blacksmith of Diptford, Devon, who married Susanna HILL (widow) in the neighbouring parish of North Huish, Dev., on 18 Nov 1780. John died at Diptford on 23 Dec 1823 and was buried at North Huish two days later. His age at the time of death was either 77, as recorded in the burials register, or 78 as inscribed on his memorial at North Huish. A widespread search of parish registers in South Devon has failed to locate John's baptism, c. 1745 or 1746. There are two possible events at Mary Tavy, Dev., (a considerable distance from Diptford and North Huish) in 1745 and 1746 but I have no way of proving that either of them is the one I'm looking for.
