    3. I have just subscribed to the Holmes mailing list. I have been researching about 6 months now, so I guess I am still fairly new. I am looking for the family of my gggrandmother, Sarah A. Holmes. She was born about 1816 in SC, the daughter of a local Methodist minister. She married the Rev./Dr. William E. Collier in1840 in SC, and I believe all 8 of their children were born there. I got the info on Sarah from her husband's obituary sent from the Methodist archives. They were married 46 years and died within 2 months of each other in Fort Myers, Florida. I believe most of their children were born in the Abbeville district or Fairfield district of SC. I plan to contact the SC Methodist conference again, this time to ask for Holmes. I thought it might help to give me a starting name. Is anyone familiar with this Sarah? They were in Florida during the Civil War, located in Madison. Sarah had her husband as a surgeon, and at least 2 sons serving also. (Junius and Oscar both served). I am missing 3 sons, so more may have served. That must have been hard on the women; I know some had their whole family of males serving. Guess I never thought about it until I started my family research. Sure brings it close to home. Hope to make some contacts. Sydney(female version of name) Lane Cardner Florida
