Further to my earlier e-mail, I have spoken to Tracey Moseley of the Holmes FHS this morning. She tells meshe took the Holmes FHS out of the Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) because people who had used the GOONS as a first contact were constantly asking for information (which took lots of time to dig out or research) and was getting almost nothing in return (i.e. a sharing of information, or, I guess, basic costs where incurred). Bear in mind the Holmes FHS is a non-profit making genealogical society, like all GOONS are, and relies on the goodwill of it's members (usually only one or two of them) to do all this hard work in their spare time. As someone who works full-time and doesn't earn a fortune myself, I sympathise with her predicament from both these points of view, and thus why they decided to remove themselves from the GOONS. Indeed, I had a unbelievably detailed 3-page request via e-mail this very morning! - in amongst all the others... What is one supposed to do? Anyway, back to the base subject - regarding the Reunion - no - she is not planning to organise one at the moment. May I ask - is anyone on this list a member of the Holmes FHS?
