    3. Holmes Family Researchers: I correct my error and apologize. I apparently slipped an unintentional "r" into the name of the husband of Lidiah Holmes. I have gone back to the notes of Mary Leeper Long (MLL; 1866-1939). Her notes clearly state that Lidiah Holmes, daughter of the Rev. Obadiah and Katherine Hyde Holmes, married Capt. John Bowne in 1663. His parents are listed as William and Ann Bowne. Sarah Bowne, daughter of John and Lydiah Holmes Bowne, married Richard Salter (appears as both Saltar and Salter in MLL's notes, but Salter is apparently preferred). Edwin Salter, the son of Richard and Sarah Bowne Salter, wrote about the Rev. Obadiah Holmes in the Monmouth Democrat on Sept. 6, 1888. This line, as previously noted, led to President Abraham Lincoln via Hannah Salter, who married Mordecai Lincoln. According to the Sept. 6, 1888 article by Edwin Salter, Mary Holmes, daughter of the Rev. Obadiah and Katherine Hyde, married John Browne (born 1634, son of the Rev. Chad Browne). Lidiah Holmes married Capt. John Bowne. Mary Holmes married John Browne. Browne University is said to have been named after members of this Browne Family (Rev. Chad or John Browne?). The notes of Mary Leeper Long begin: "Notes copied from Holmes History." >From a later entry, it appears that her notes are likely from The American Family of the Rev. Obadiah Holmes, due to a reference in the text of the notes that refers to the year 1915 as "the present time". In an elaboration of the notes, Mary Leeper Long writes: "My great grandfather Isaac Holmes was a brother of Joseph Holmes (1771 - 1868) on page 4 of Holmes History. The writer of the history, Joseph T. Holmes, is a descendant of the Joseph of 1771." As Joseph T. Holmes was the author of The American Family of the Rev. Obadiah Holmes and it was written in 1915, it now appears likely that the source of Mary Leeper Long's notes was this book. My error (that was kindly corrected) and my re-look at the notes of Mary Leeper Long has helped me (finally) identify the likely source of her information. I am glad. Therefore, I refer persons interested in the descendants of the Rev. Obadiah and Katherine Hyde Holmes to the book The American Family of the Rev. Obadiah Holmes, by Joseph T. Holmes, published 1915. This book is available in many libraries and genealogy centers. Steve Leeper
