Now this is nothing solid, just hunches. In a family picture book I acquired in 1994, there was a picture of John Wilkes Booth. I have always wondered why it was there because the name Booth has never entered into the family line, as far as I knew. This week I was surfing the Internet to fine information about that picture. What I found was his fathers name was Junius Brutus Booth and his mothers name was Mary Ann HOLMES. Mary was a common law wife of Junius because he was married in 1815 to Adelaide Delannoy. Junius and Mary Ann married in 1851, one year before Junius died. He left England around 1821 with Mary Ann Holmes for the United States. If the picture of John Wilkes Booth was there because of Mary Ann connection, he would have been a first cousin to William N Holmes. This is assuming that William N Holmes was a nephew of Mary. John Wilkes Booth was born in 1838. Now, I said this was just a hunch, but it would explain the reason for the picture in the family album. What do you think? It is at least worth checking out.
