William Holmes born South Carolina 1785, married prior to 1815, Mary Billingsley (dau of William and Margaret Billingsley). They moved to West Tennessee and located in what became Carroll County, in 1822. He was a farmer, Mary died in 1850's and he was still living in 1860 and was deceased prior to 1870. She died in 1831. He then married [2] Rebecca Billingsley (daughter of Samuel Billingsley) Children: A.] Lucinda b 1822 md. prior to 1843 James Washington Holmes, b. TN 1821 son of William Holmes and Mary Billingsley-Holmes. These Holmes families are NOT related and the Billingsley side is remote. She died in 1859 leaving five children. B.] William b 1824 moved to Ala. in late 1840s C.] Mary Jane b 1826 md. prior to 1845 Mr. Pritchard, who died about 1848, she was living with her father in 1850 with daughter Elizabeth E. Pritchard. D.] Louisa A. b 1828 living in 1850 unmarried E.] Mary Elizabeth b. 1830, prior to 1857 married Samuel T. Resided a short time in Georgia and then moved to Henry County TN and then to Carroll County TN in the 1840's where they resided till 1862 and moved to Missouri. Children: A.] Jacob b 1828 Georgia died 1836-7 Tenn. B.] Naomi b 1832 TN married about 1856 joseph Murphy and moved to Missouri around St. Joseph, no record of any children.
