One night a mad wolf rushed in among the sleeping campers and bit Larpenter's friend, GEORGE HOLMES. A short time before, one of their cattle had been bitten and when Holmes heard the poor beast bellowing madley, he expressed his fears to Charles that maybe, he too, would go mad. Larpenter tried to calm him, but Holmes soon developed hydrophobia and had to be carried across the stream in a blanket. He got worse until one day he ripped off his clothes and ran into the wilderness and was never seen again." [[ from what I have read I think this George Holmes was from possibly St. Louis Missouri, and I believe he died around the present site of Daniel, WY... from the way the article reads.]]
