    3. The recent flurry of States-side activity prompted the following thought: It would be extremely helpful if everyone prefaced their topic, on the Subject line of the email, with a brief country code: [USA] - for the majority of postings, apparently; [UK] - for England, Scotland, Ireland (including the Irish Republic); [CAN] - for Canada; [AUS] - for Australia; [OTH] - for all OTHers. If the query refers back to immigrants (including roots), this could be indicated as [UK>USA]. In my case, since I am only interested in North-west England, I could quickly delete all non-[UK] postings... One further point of general (?) interest: A week from now (17th July) I will be going to England for two weeks. I intend to spend several days in the Carlisle Records Office (which covers Cumbria), and I will be staying in Durham (with a Records Office for North-east England). I hope to trace my Holmes ancestors back from a confirmed 1791 to a postulated 1573 or so... I already have reams of info on this period, for Cumbria. So, two questions: 1) does anyone out there have information that might be useful for me? 2) does anyone out there have specific queries that I could look up in Carlisle while I'm there? Meanwhile: happy hunting, have a good holiday, kind regards, and so on and so forth ... Paul Holmes
