I'm looking for descendants of, or information about, Charles Jeremiah and Lillian Frances Phillips HOLMES. Lillian is the daughter of my ggrandfather John Fearney PHILLIPS and his second wife, Adaline GRAVES. I don't know if she had any siblings. I don't know who Charles HOLMES' parents were. Charles Jeremiah HOLMES and Lillian Frances PHILLIPS were probably married about 1908. They were living in Springfield, Lane County, Oregon in 1920. I have the census page with their names at the bottom, but don't have the next page with their children's names. Other information indicates the children are Kenneth Ivin (1909-1973), Florence (1911-1973), Irene Agnes (1914-1980), and Lorraine (1922-1989). There are other children who as far as I know are still living. I'm not including their names or birthdates since I don't have their permission (or even know them). I don't know who Charles Jeremiah HOLMES' parents were. Lillian PHILLIPS was born 23 Oct 1890 in Sauk City, Skagit County, Washington. On the 1920 census she is listed as 29 years old. Charles HOLMES is listed as 30 years old, born in Oregon, father born in Maine and mother born in U. S. Charles' occupation is listed as farmer. They are in Enumeration District 261, Precinct 4, Springfield City, page 4a. What looks like "J Street" is written in the margin of the census page. My ggrandfather John F. PHILLIPS left his first family in Arkansas (my ggrandmother and their 3 sons, including my grandfather) sometime between 1870 and 1880. He and Adaline were in Washington State by at least some time in the 1890s. John is said to have died about 1900. I don't know when Adaline and Lillian moved to Oregon, or when or where Lillian met Charles J. HOLMES. Some evidence indicates that Lillian probably left Washington while still a child. Very little (actually nothing) is known about this branch of the family because my grandfather was so bitter about his father leaving his mother he refused to talk about him. He even forbade his brothers to ever talk to his children about his father. I was told that they accidently found out about John PHILLIPS' second family. My grandfather was very upset and told his children not to try to talk to him about it or try to contact the other family. One of his daughters managed to find out where they were anyway, and contacted someone ("one of the boys," according to another aunt), who immediately got on a bus and came to see them (in Oklahoma, I think), not knowing how my grandfather felt. When the daughter found out her was coming she had to tell her father. He told her to meet the bus, take care of him and send him back, he didn't want to see him or hear anything about him. As far as I know, no one from my grandfather's family tried to contact anyone in ggrandfather PHILLIPS second family again. Until now, at least. Now that you know more than you ever wanted to know about my Phillipses -- Does anyone know this HOLMES family? I would really like to find some descendants in this branch of the family and fill in some gaps. It would be nice to meet some new cousins and try to mend this family. Jo Holsinger Virginia
