Corliss, you might want to look in Wood and Upshur Counties in northeast TX as there are a number of Duffy/Duffey families there from 1870s through early 1900s. My Holmes ancestor, Sarah A. Holmes (1812-1896), wed Henry H. Bonner in 1829 and they migrated from GA through MS to TX just prior to 1850 and settled in Upshur County; I do not know if they joined other Holmes kin already in the area. Two of their grandchildren (surname Hallonquist) married Duffeys in the 1880s, and settled in Perryville, Wood County, TX. I have not researched this line much so can't help on the 14 kids or the parents of the Duffey spouses, etc., but I did want to let you know there was a slight Holmes/Duffy connection in TX at the same time of your research. Good luck.
