My 3rd great grandmother was names Mary Stevens Holmes. She was born 15 Sep 1797 in Warwick, Franklin, MA. In her history it is said that she was an independent woman of Welch descent. She married as a second wife Augustus Oliver Artimus Stowell and became step mom to his three children and then had 9 of her own. They joined the Mormon church, he being first to join, and then he decided to pull away from it. Him being an attorney of means in the state of NY. She took her children and left him to follow the saints to Nauvoo. Her father was James Holmes b. 1781 in Warwick, MA. married to Amelia "Millie" Rawson The father of James was also a James b. 1741 in Berwick, York, ME. he married a Mary. I do not have a last name for her. I am thinking it may be Stevens as this was my grandmother's middle name, it is also the only surname missing on this line. James was the son of Samuel Holmes and Mary Peavey of Kittery. I am hoping this will sound familiar to someone out there. I know there are cousins out there and Mary Stevens Holmes had a Mayflower number. Surely there is some record somewhere of her parents and grandparents. Rose Adams in CA.
