    1. Re: [HOLMES] HOLMES FROM / TX TO PA
    2. Helen Wall
    3. Corliss, you might want to look in Wood and Upshur Counties in northeast TX as there are a number of Duffy/Duffey families there from 1870s through early 1900s. My Holmes ancestor, Sarah A. Holmes (1812-1896), wed Henry H. Bonner in 1829 and they migrated from GA through MS to TX just prior to 1850 and settled in Upshur County; I do not know if they joined other Holmes kin already in the area. Two of their grandchildren (surname Hallonquist) married Duffeys in the 1880s, and settled in Perryville, Wood County, TX. I have not researched this line much so can't help on the 14 kids or the parents of the Duffey spouses, etc., but I did want to let you know there was a slight Holmes/Duffy connection in TX at the same time of your research. Good luck. 3. I am searching for descendants of Alfred and Fanny Holmes who lived in Battersea, London in the 1860's They had at least 11 children. 1. [HOLMES] Samuel Holmes 1740 NY
    2. willbur
    3. Willie, Here are some things you may want to check out, if you've not already done so. (1) Samuel, b. 1740 NY, d. 1796, NS. Would he have been a Loyalist and forced to relocate in NS (or possibly NB, separate from NS in 1785)? (2) The FOUNTAIN name exists in Charlotte County, NB records as well as Maine, I believe. I am researching Fountain name (Grand Manan and/or Campobello) in connection with GGGrandfather's probate records and would be interested if you have anything more on this name. (3) I do not recall the name FAWCETT in my research but perhaps I wasn't paying attention; I will now. (4) Sackville--at Cumberland Bay, near NS border, may be an area that saw a great deal of movement of not only marketable goods but families as well. To date I am beginning to find some patterns of migration of families between different areas of New Brunswick but this information is far from conclusive--just a sense of what was happening. The only thing I could say for sure is that they certainly did move about! Try Charlotte County Genweb site; there might be something there--or not! Good luck. Lucijane willbur@nemaine.com

    1. [HOLMES] Ezra Holmes
    2. buckmaster
    3. Am looking for an Ezra Holmes born about 1791. He lived most of his life in Danube (Herkimer County), New York. In fact, it says he lived there 73 years. Actually the town of Newville is also mentioned, which I believe is a small settlement near Danube. He was married to a Sally Wilcox and possibly to an Elizabeth Emily who died at the age of 24, in 1841. His children were: Alvah (possibly) Sarah A. (also possibly Lester's wife) Lester Oscar Nancy M. An infant son is also shown to have died at Newville on June 27, 1827. The infant son of Ezra Holmes, merchant. Alvah is shown to have lived next door in the 1850 census, and married to Permelia Pickert of Manheim. His children were: Viola Zelia (Azelia) Wilkard (perhaps Willard) Ezra died near Fulton (Gilbert's Mills), Oswego County, NY on June 21, 1878 at 87 years. It also states that he was a Deacon. Am actually trying to trace back another generation from Ezra, but any information would be greatly appreciated. My mother (who is 92) is also in possession of two spoons with Azelia Holmes engraved on the handle. She says that this cousin Zelia or Azelia (Alvah's daughter) sent them to her, saying that they were her grandmother's or great-grandmother's. So. . . there may also be another Azelia. Anyone with information may directly email me at buck@jas.net. Laura

    2. Rose Adams
    3. My 3rd great grandmother was names Mary Stevens Holmes. She was born 15 Sep 1797 in Warwick, Franklin, MA. In her history it is said that she was an independent woman of Welch descent. She married as a second wife Augustus Oliver Artimus Stowell and became step mom to his three children and then had 9 of her own. They joined the Mormon church, he being first to join, and then he decided to pull away from it. Him being an attorney of means in the state of NY. She took her children and left him to follow the saints to Nauvoo. Her father was James Holmes b. 1781 in Warwick, MA. married to Amelia "Millie" Rawson The father of James was also a James b. 1741 in Berwick, York, ME. he married a Mary. I do not have a last name for her. I am thinking it may be Stevens as this was my grandmother's middle name, it is also the only surname missing on this line. James was the son of Samuel Holmes and Mary Peavey of Kittery. I am hoping this will sound familiar to someone out there. I know there are cousins out there and Mary Stevens Holmes had a Mayflower number. Surely there is some record somewhere of her parents and grandparents. Rose Adams in CA.
