Hello, I have a puzzle to solve. My grandfather , David J. Holmes, was born in Sept. 1892 to Dennis and Mary (Greene) in East Boston. When he was very young he was brought to the Catholic church in Keene, NH with some other children and the parishoners were asked to take them in. He was raised in a good home and managed to locate 2 sisters when he was grown. His children never knew about his early life, only that he and his siblings were removed from the home. I have found the names of his parents (above) and the following: Dennis arrived from Ireland in 1887 and was married to Mary Greene, also from Ireland, in 1889. My grandfather found a sister Josephine, born 1894, and a sister Margaret. It was not known if there were others. By 1900 the census shows Dennis living alone with only a boarder and Mary is not there, although he lists himself as "married 10 years", not widowed. The children are also gone. Where has Mary gone and why were the children removed sometime prior to 1900? How many children were there? Can anyone help me with this puzzle? Thanks for any help. Jane

They emigrated to Australia in 1855, via the Port Elizabeth, South Africa where they had an unscheduled stop-over for some two years, due to the arrival of my grandfather Benjamin, they finally settled in Newtown, Geelong Victoria. I was wondering if anyone researching the surname HOLMES had a marriage to a PAGE. The reason i ask is because i have a DEBORAH HOLMES PAGE who was born 24 Mar 1803. She was the daughter of Timothy Page and Mary Coward of Dover Twp, Monmouth County (now Ocean Co) NJ. Mary Coward was the daugter of Thomas Coward and unknown Timothy Page (1763-1840) was the son of Joseph Page Sr (ca1742-1819) of UpperFreehold Monmouth Co, NJ and Margaret "Ann" Robins. I am unsure who Joseph Page's parents where but i believe he is a distant descendant of Anthony Page who was listed as one of the lot owners in Middletown, Monmouth Co, NJ in 1667.and his son Anthony Page Jr who has been referenced to as the progenitor of the family name in Upper freehold. Since this would be an unusual middle name unless it was a surname i assume that there might possibly be a connection somewhere. Could this possibly be a Holmes-Coward connection also??
