Friends, I understand that my mother-in-law, in whose family were the last names Maine, Tollan and Downs, is somehow related to the Wertz's. Does anyone on this list have information on any of those four names? Location is probably York County or Lancaster County, or perhaps just south in Maryland. I would appreciate any help someone can offer. Wyn Achenbaum
I posted the Descendants of Abraham MORRISON on my web site. The related surnames include: KEEHNER, RODWELL, HART, HOLMES, ALTHEN. Census data is posted for all lines. I have both English and Irish MORRISON and RODWELL information. Sandy Hart, RootsWeb Donor http://www.geocities.com/Wellesley/5372/
As a follow up to my last message..... >Since I've had so many enquiries about the HOLMES FHS here's the >information. >The convenor is Mrs Tracey Mosley >30 Eastfield Rd >Peterborough Cambs >PE1 4AN England The Holmes Society does not answer any kind of queries or supply information on request. Their philosophy is that the information they hold is from members and for members, as many member spend hours and days inputting information into databases. Regards Beryl
Please excuse this reply to the list, but I had just finished the learning curve on a MIME and felt others on the list would benefit. A "MIMI" is a digitally encrypted file, for security reasons or whatever. In order to read it, the message has to be addressed to you personally and you have to get their digital id and put it in your address book. I am using Outlook Express and I did one about 5 minutes ago for the first time. I opened the message, double clicked on the person's name which brought up the add to address book screen. I had to ADD them and then I was able to read the files. Please note, the reason I started this in the first place is that someone sent me a message to my AOL account and I was not able to "decode" it, so I had them send it to this account and found out what to do. I would suggest, since you are on AOL, is to contact their technical support and find out if/how to "decode" it. Hope this helps. -Doug -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Friday, January 29, 1999 3:43 PM Subject: Re:MIME-Version: 1.0 or other MIME versions > >Could you please explain what the MIME-Version: 1.0 is and what is its use?? > >Thanks, > >Bill Holmes >[email protected] > >

Since I've had so many enquiries about the HOLMES FHS here's the information. The convenor is Mrs Tracey Mosley 30 Eastfield Rd Peterborough Cambs PE1 4AN England She is also Editor of the quarterly journal, which lists extracts from all kinds of indexes, etc, with incidences of Holmeses, mostly sent in by members. All occurrences of HOLMES gratefully received, though the emphasis is on UK origins. Articles, letters to Editor, feature stories with photos, etc. I find it a very good read and am always hoping that that elusive connection may appear. Walter Holmes collects data on Holmeses for the Society. He may be reading this at the moment. If so, speak up Walter. If not, I'll check that the email address I have for him is current and get his permission to publish it. I know he hasn't been well. Back issues are available at 1pound 25 per copy. (1pound extra overseas postage) Membership is 8pounds 50 outside UK to cover airmail. Australian, NZ and US dollars accepted in cash. Fees due upon joining and due every January. (Which reminds me!!!!) Cheques must be in pounds sterling payable to HOLMES F.H.S. Think that's all folks. Happy Holmesing!!! (There's a new word we can introduce into the vocabulary) Beryl -

->May I ask - is anyone on this list a member of the Holmes FHS? > Yes Shelagh - I am. Beryl O'Gorman Melbourne Australia
Hi Shelagh And all the rest of the HOLMES clan. I have been watching this group for some time for the HOLMES FAMILY HISTORY SOC: of Gt Britain. I agree with you entirely re the release of the information in our files, we have many members sitting on information, which for some reason they won't share. Then we have others like yourself, who passed on to the HOLMES FAM: HIS: SOC: hundreds of hours of work, from the parish registers of KENT. What the HOLMES group need in America, is some one to collate all the info into a database, by State, County & Town. Regards Walter
Morning group.. I just got a letter from my Great Aunt, and she remembered Thomas Armstrong Holmes brothers...Jim Holmes ( I think it's James Thomas) had a son called Jim Tom, Also Washington Holmes and John Holmes. I can't find who wrote me about "Washington" Holmes, please contact me again. Also anyone who might think this looks like their line.. I have things falling into place and want to share :) Thanks Carolyn
Further to my earlier e-mail, I have spoken to Tracey Moseley of the Holmes FHS this morning. She tells meshe took the Holmes FHS out of the Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) because people who had used the GOONS as a first contact were constantly asking for information (which took lots of time to dig out or research) and was getting almost nothing in return (i.e. a sharing of information, or, I guess, basic costs where incurred). Bear in mind the Holmes FHS is a non-profit making genealogical society, like all GOONS are, and relies on the goodwill of it's members (usually only one or two of them) to do all this hard work in their spare time. As someone who works full-time and doesn't earn a fortune myself, I sympathise with her predicament from both these points of view, and thus why they decided to remove themselves from the GOONS. Indeed, I had a unbelievably detailed 3-page request via e-mail this very morning! - in amongst all the others... What is one supposed to do? Anyway, back to the base subject - regarding the Reunion - no - she is not planning to organise one at the moment. May I ask - is anyone on this list a member of the Holmes FHS? Hi Carolyn and fellow Holmes descendants. > Does anyone know if anyone holds any type of a HOLMES > Reunion?? (Any Holmes..from any where) If so do you know > when and where? I don't know the answer to this, but wondered whether you had got in touch with the HOLMES Family History Society, run by Tracey Moseley (in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England). I thought she was registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies - but cannot find her in the current on-line list, which is rather strange. I will investigate and let everyone know. We HOLMES here (Washington/Idaho) usually have a big reunion over Labor day I think.. I know there is usually over 150 people.. sometimes more.. sometimes less.. And that is just from the Joe Quincy>James Monroe? Thomas Armstrong Holmes line.. Plus all the Harmons, Dunkers and then the kids and all their family. The reason I asked about reunions is because my sister and I are planning a trip back east and would love to be able to meet other Holmes..I keep thinking ONCE we all get this line back.. grin... we're all related one way or anohter and I personally love family :) So.. I guess we just wanted to say Hello and share our Holmes' stories.. Thanks guys.. I'll make a list :) What's for dinner.. grin :) Carolyn
Does anyone know if anyone holds anytype of a HOLMES Reunion?? (Any Holmes..from any where) If so do you know when and where? Thanks Carolyn
Message text written by INTERNET:[email protected] > There was a Nathaniel HOLMES in the Kilburn area of Middlesex in the early< Hi Where is the Kilburn area of Middlesex? I don't remember hearing that name. My Nathaniel Holmes was living in New Brunswick 1882 and died there but he was originally from Cape May Co. My Holmes came from Ireland. I think there is a completely different Holmes family in Monmouth Co/Middlesex Co that came from England. One of John E Stillwell MD volumns has a lot of the Holmes from England info. Shirley
I found someone's family here: http://www.iocc.com/~swright/pwbibrec.html and http://www.iocc.com/~swright/pike20.html 1820 cen. index, Pike Co., MS
