Does anyone know of either of these Thomas Holmes? "Thomas Holmes, Hingham, perhaps at least one that name came in 1637, as servant to William Ludkin, who was of the City of Norwich, and set down here, H." "Thomas Holmes, New London, born at London came in 1665; by wife Lucretia, or Lucia, daughter of Thomas Dudley, of New York, had John, born 1686; he died 1724; his wife, 1688." Also I never knew that in the early years of Migration, that since so much of the Colonies was under British rule, you didn't have to become a citizen of the states, since it was under British rule. So, does anyone know HOW I would go about tracking someone from the late 1700s that was born or came to the states? Would I have to check out England, or would I look for records here. I have a son (or brother) of Thomas, John born in PA in 1798 PA. Hope this made sense..:) I am just not sure where or what to do next.. Thanks.. Carolyn
This poor man needs parents! And siblings! He wed Keziah Cox around Augusta, Richmond Co, GA or across the river in SC about 1810. By 1818 they were in Conecuh Co., AL, then Butler Co, AL, until 1840's when they settled permanently in Rankin Co., MS. I'm grasping at straws here, but since I have nothing to go on (and nothing to lose), am focusing on the name Shadrach as perhaps being his father's name as well. The "Roster of Soldiers from NC in the American Revolution" (DAR 1932) lists a couple of Shadrack Holmes: Pvt. Shadrach Holmes, 5th Regiment, Col. Edward Williams' Company, Buncombe County, enlisted 1777. Pvt. Shadrack Holmes, 10th Regiment, Col. Abraham Shephard, Blount's Company, enlisted 1776 (I believe he ultimately made rank of Sgt.) At least one of these Shadrach's was granted land, and one Shadrach Holmes appears on the 1781 tax roll for Bertie County. Is anyone researching either of these men? Have much on the descendants of my James Shadrach Holmes, but believe he sprang from a black hole in NC. Children of James Shadrach and Keziah Cox Holmes were: Sarah A., Jane, Martha, George Washington, Ellen, William Decatur, Keziah, Josiah, Amanda Frances, Abigail Mary, James Shadrack Jr., Edward Hillary and Blanton Wilcox Holmes. No scrap too small; happy to share. Thanks. helen
One more time--Charles Holmes was a carpenter on the courthouse in Marshall, Harrison Co., TX around 1900. He married Mary Johnson, b. 1878; parents: Thomas Johnson m. Almedia McHaney, b. 1849, d. 1920, Rusk Co., TX. Almedia McHaney Johnson m. (2) Alex Moore, Kilgore, Rusk Co., TX. Charles Holmes and Mary Johnson had daughter, Jessie Alma b. 1900. Mary died early 1900s; Charles died probably before 1914. ANY INFORMATION FOR CHARLES HOLMES WOULD BE APPRECIATED! Delores Williams

Periodically I post my WANTED Holmes family into the list hoping that among the new people who have joined us someone may recognize them. So here goes again. 1. SAMUEL HOLMES, born in 1804, New York, married Lurinda ENSIGN, born in 1808, New York. 2. daughter, HARRIETT G. HOLMES born, 1835, possibly in Michigan, married in 1856 to George W. ROBINSON, born 1830 in Michigan. 3. Joseph ROBINSON, born Arkansas Samuel and his daughter Harriett are part of my husband's family. Harriett was married three times, but her first marriage to George Washington Robinson is the one that counts for our family. Her second and third husbands were 2. somebody-or other Hull and 3. somebody-or other Hatfield. She was affectionately known as Grandma Hatfield by the family in her latter years. I have been hoping to get in touch with someone from Ohio for some help. My g grandfather, wife and one son and three daughters, came to Kansas sometime in the late 1870's or early 1890's. My grandmother, Bessie J. Holmes, was born July 4, 1874 in Wayne County, Ohio. In her obituary, it listed her parents as A. Holmes and wife, which really doesn't give you much to go on. Is there a genweb site for Ohio that might be of some help to me? There isn't much to go on, but any help would really be appreciated. Liz Schoof --part0_919031847_boundary--

I'm sorry but I have not run across a Juan Holmes. I am researching HOLMES- WILLIAMS Chicago IL area looking for my paternal grandparents. A Clyde and Elsa HOLMES or a J.L. HOLMES and ELSA (Williams ) around 1890 era. I have not even started to research my Husband's side. However his family is from GA. area. Have sent for the SS info on both MINNIE AND THOMAS BULLARD. I have made note of a WILLIAM BULLARD marriage to a SARAH JANE EASON in Williamson Co. IL as well as a JOHN R. BULLARD marriage to CATHERINE L. CARNES Mar 3, 1853 in IL. Unfortunately I forgot to put a area on that one but know it's IL. Will file your info and if I run across a connection will let you know. I haven't seen a lot of BULLARD'S in my search. My father was supposedly adopted by his maternal grandmother (when his mother died ?) and taken to OR as an infant and family contact seemed to have ended there. Dad's name was changed (legally ?) from HOLMES to WILLIAMS so all my connections with OR are as a WILLIAMS - VAN VALKENBERG
There is a HOLMES, HELLEN A. marriage to ALLS, THOMAS on11-27-1856 listed for JoDavies Co.
My oldest HOLMES is Moses HOLMES who was born in Dutchess Co, NY in 1774 and who married in about 1796 Mary WRIGHT (b. 1777). They had 2 sons (Harvey/Hervey, b.1798 and Wright, b.1799) in Frederick Town. They removed to Leurenkill in Ulster Co, NY about 1801. I am seeking information on their parents. Thanks for any info or help in finding them.
Looking for any information on a Marvin William or possibly William K Holmes who traveled I think with his family from Tennessee to California on foot when "he was 16". Came back from California to Texas, where he married "Molly" (Frances?) BLASINGAME and settled in Bastrop County, Texas, where he raised a family, and died in Nacona, Montague County, Texas. Father is possibly James Holmes who is mentioned in The History of Coleman County (texas) as coming from Tennessee with his wife ELizabeth BLASINGAME, or possibly this was an older brother. A Tom and Calvin Holmes are mentioned as early settlers in Coleman County in the 1830s as well. According to a granddaughter of Marvin's he was born in Scotland. His known children include: William Woodson or "Willard" b. 1862 "Bill" George Jr? Fannie who married a MOSS Sarah who married a MARTIN Sinda who married a MARTIN -- Janelle Holmes Wildair Kennels Dripping Springs, Texas [email protected] http://lonestar.texas.net/~wildair (kennel page) http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/8208 (family page)
