I don't know if I mentioned this or not in my original message, but one of the Terry's was the father of all of Nancy Holmes children. How did she get the last name of Holmes? Why didn't she name the children after the father, especially since he was their owner? What other sources are there for an individual who just started out on a venture such as this and find themselve up against the wall so soon? I do know that one of the Terry brothers sold land to one of my ggguncles, Lemuel Holmes. Where do I start to get beyond this wall? I have birthdates of most of the nine children. They were all born after 1960. Would there be records of their births? They were all born in King William Co, Va. The township was called Acquinton. Suggestions please! Greetings Group, I'm finally getting around to adding my two cents. Here is the bulk of my Holme/s information: "Jonathan and Mary Dungan were witnesses to the will of Jane Holme, of Lower Dublin Township, Philadelphia county, PA., widow, dated April 13, 1785, proved May 25,1793. She (Jane) mentions children: John, Thomas, Abel, Enoch, Hannah Keen, and Priscilla Cox; grandchild: Jane Holme, daughter of son Abel. Executors: John and Thomas Holme." That is the last reference I have concerning Mary Holme Dungan. All the children mentioned can also be found listed in the Pennsylvania Vital Records, though I do not remember which volume. The quoted material is from the Clarke/Dungan Genealogy written by Justice in the early 1900s. Also, John Holmes served as a Major along with Captain Thomas Holmes, and Ensign Enoch Holmes in Colonel Benjamin McVaugh's 2nd Battalion, of the Philadelphia County Militia during the Revolutionary War. "So far as appears, neither Jonathan or Mary Dungan left wills and there is no record of Letters of Administration on their estates." Does anyone know if that still holds? I'm looking for more information concerning the parents of Mary Holme Dungan. I have additional information concerning the Children of Mary Holme Dungan; for those that are interested, write me personally. Best Regards, Mike J.

Hello everyone on the Holmes list. > >I am not sure if anyone has ever posted this site before..if > >not.. and you're any variation of Holmes... this is a gold > >mine..all 62 pages of it!! I almost fell out of my chair! > >Carolyn > ><http://users.ox.ac.uk/~malcolm/genealogy/big/eng/KEN/Holmes.txt> The "Gold Mine", so to speak, are my transcriptions from East Kent (England) Parish Registers, which I submitted to GenUKI, the home of all UK and Ireland research, a few years ago. My mother and I have spent 12+ years extracting all these (and now many, many more than on that list) from original documents or their microfilms. If anyone has any East Kent Holmes connections, and would like the entire entry (sometimes quite a few lines - but not always) please do let me know. I recently obtained records from the National Archives regarding this Civil War soldier, who is now my oldest Holmes ancestor. He died on June 14, 1862 from wounds received near Harrisonburg Virginia. It appears that he and his wife Laura Louise Barber (m. Sept 30, 1848, Portville, Cataraugus County, NY, d. January 22, 1900, Kings Run, PA) had possibly five children each of whom was born in the Cataraugus County, NY/McKean County, PA area: Elba DeForest Holmes, b. June 22, 1849 Mary Esther Holmes, b. February 22, 1851 Irene Geneva Holmes, b. April 18, 1853 James Holmes, b. ????**The records are unclear re this child. Blanche May Holmes, b. May 13, 1857 Among the National Archives Records is a letter requesting information on Frederick dated in 1929, from Florence Holmes, wife of Earle D. Holmes. She must have been doing genealogy research on her husband's family. She was from Casper, Wyoming. It appears that Earle D. Holmes is a cousin of mine. Any information regarding Frederick Clinton Holmes, any of his children, or Florence (Mrs. Earle D.) Holmes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Christopher W.
