HI - anybody out there? I've just joined the list but it seems very quiet so I hope there are readers out there! For my American "cousins" I am sorry to say that I have no established connections Stateside. For UK researchers my HOLLOWAY family are firmly rooted in the Medway towns - Chatham, Rochester and Gillingham (details back to c1800.) My grandfather, John Henry William Holloway b.1875 was a Farrier and moved to Islington London as soon as he finished his apprenticeship (somewhere around 1890 or perhaps a few years earlier). He married FLORENCE BEATRICE HUSK in 1898 and raised a family before moving back to Chatham in 1913. We do not know why he decided to go to Islington but it is known that other Holloway's lived there at that time. I am therefore wondering if there was a family connection and that someone offered him a job or living accommodation. So does anyone have HOLLOWAY connections in Islington say 1850 - 1900? Anyone have info on HUSK from Islington? ALSO trying to make connections with the Royal Engineers. G.Grandfather lived close to the Brompton Barracks (Home of The Royal Engineers). There were at least 2 VIP Holloway's in the RE's in the late 18th and early 19th century's. G.Grandmother referred "loosely" to there being a Spanish connection in the blood line which could indicate Gibraltar with which the RE's were very much associated. There seems to be plenty for me to research but I have only just started. Anyone able to make a connection for/with me? David Richard Holloway
