I am again working on my Holloway/Halloway line - working on DAR membership through Isaac Holloway (b. c. 1751; d. 1808 in Washington Co, PA; m. 1773 in Northampton Co., PA to Elizabeth Caldo), a Drum Major under Lt. James Long and also in Capt. Patrick Anderson's Co. of State Regiment Foot, and also in Third Batallion, Northampton Militia. Also looking for James Purcell Holloway/Halloway (23 Mar 1814 in Mercer Co., PA; d. 27/28 Aug 1898; m. 21 Mar 1837 in Mercer Co. to Mary Jane Barnes). James Purcell attended Alleghany College in Meadville PA and changed the spelling of his name to Halloway because of mail mixups. around 1850 moved to Rock Island, IL, and by 1860 is living in Wapello Co, IA.
First post to the list guys. I'd like to take my wife's line back another generation if I could. I have John Holloway and his downlines, but just received some printed matter on Bremmillion Holloway and his ancestors in Rhea County Tennessee. I'd bet that he had a brother John. Any takers? I've been watching this list for a couple weeks, and thought I'd sign in and identify myself. So far I haven't seen any Holloway lines that I can identify with mine. My Holloway line is descended from Isaac HOLLOWAY, Sr. (born in ca.1751? in England, died in 1808 in Washington Co, PA) and any info I have comes from the Holloway book published in 1927. Supposedly 2 brothers, William and Isaac, came to America sometime after 1751 . William went to West Virginia - no further record. Isaac settled near Ten Mile Creek in Washington Co, PA and is the Isaac Holloway identified in DAR lineages as a Drum Major under Lt. James Long. He was married to Margaret Caldo (1755-1817) in 1773 in Northampton Co, PA. Children were: 1. Isaac, Jr. (b. 25 Jul 1774; d. 15 Jul 1847) married to Katherine PURCELL 2. Moses - supposedly moved to Ohio 3. David - supposedly moved to Indiana Children of Isaac HOLLOWAY, Jr. and Katherine PURCELL: 1. Ira (b. 17 Mar 1799; d. either 1875 or 1878, buried in Kansas, m. Esther HILL) 2. Elkanah (b. 4 Dec 1801; d. 27 Dec 1856; m. Christena) 3. Eleanor (b. 12 Jul 1804; d. 12 June ??; m. Dr. Huston BORLAND) 4. John P. (b. 28 Sep 1806; d. 18 Oct 1834; unmarried) 5. Anna (b. 14 Feb 1809; m. Adam McCORMACK) 6. Martha (b. 23 May 1812; d. 16 Apr 1834; unmarried) 7. James Purcell (b. 23 Mar 1814; d. 27/28 Aug 1898; m. 21 Mar 1837 in Mercer Co, PA to Mary Jane BARNES) James Purcell is my direct ancestor, and is how my line became HALLOWAY. He changed the spelling because of mail mixups while at Alleghany College in Meadville, PA. His line usually spells in HALLOWAY. I was at my sister's for Christmas, looking through her Goodspeed of Benton, Crawford, Franklin, Carroll and Sebastian Counties, Arkansas, when I found this note in the back in my mother's handwriting: Mary Hildreth Holloway -- 2 sisters, 3 brothers 1. Salina 2. Mint 3. Rube 4. John 5. Elizabeth parents Mathew ____ Miranda Triplett (Ireland) Mint and Rube are obviously nicknames. Well, we can only hope! Do any of these names look familiar to anyone? TIA Mary Hill t_mhill@msn.com

I was in Ozark, Franklin County, Arkansas, last week and visited Houston Cemetery. Houston is located between Alix and Altus, Arkansas. I don't find that too unusual--my great-grandmother, Mary Hildreth Holloway, is buried in Houston Cemetery also and has 2 stones, too. But I have a crazy aunt. If it helps you, let me know. Hello. I'm new to this list. I'm looking for info on my father's family. My father, Raymond Louis Holloway, grew up in Opelousa, Port Barre, New Orleans area. His father, Louis Osmay Holloway resided in Port Barre and died in New Orleans on June 19, 1963. He had some brothers, but I don't know their names. His birth date is unknown. He was married to Louise Gautreaux. Louis' father was John Holloway who was reportedly born in St. Martinville, LA and married Angelina Locassin. This is all the information I have on my father's family. I hope someone can help me find out more. Thanks in advance. Sherrill (PinkBird77@aol.com)
I haven't gotten any mail for a long time....is the list still running? Please put my name on the list again. Thanks, Marsha
The only definite information I have on Cordy is that he was married to Martha Jane Kennedy and there were at least 4 daughters and 2 sons in his family. The oldest son, my father, was born in McDonough, Henry Co. GA 1 May 1903. My uncle, his brother, was born in the same location 6 March 1906. Any help deeply appreciated. Hank Holloway

Looking for any information on or descendants of John, James and Thomas HOLLOWAY, probably from Va., and who were settled in Rapides Parish, La. by 1810. John was a Lt. in the Va. Line and James was a Pvt. in the 9th Penn. during the Revolutionary War. Once in La., they both fought in the War of 1812. In La. they settled on the North side of the Red River in Rapides parish, and the area known as Holloway Prarie is named after them. Thanks for any info.
Searching for info on family of John T. HOLLOWAY 1826-1907 and wife Amanda Ann Cooley (1833-1893). Married in Orange County, NC. Both died in Twiggs County, GA. Children (all born in NC) were : Martha, b. 1859 Frannie, b. 1860 W.P., b. 1862 C.C., b. 1864 Eliza, b. 1867 Rebecca, b. 1869 John T., Jr., b. 1871 James, b. 1873 Carrie, b. 1876 Some of this family were charter members of Danville Baptist Church. Any little sliver of info would be very much appreciated!! Thanks. Shelly, in Indianapolis
Darwin: That is what this list is for, so we can all learn something about our Holloway line. If someone learn's something from your post that's great. Don't anyway feel afraid to post something, no matter how unimportant you might think it is, it might be what someone else is looking for. Gary, listowner.
Sandra, I was wondering if you ran across Tabithia Holloway from GA in your research. I have been trying to locate info on the marriage of Tabithia Holloway to John H Roberts dated Nov 6, 1849. I located this on the Marriage records from Family tree maker. Do you have a Tabithia Holloway married to a John Roberts? Thank you for any help, Cathy pierce@cftnet.com
There is an 1828 HOLLOWAY Family Bible being offered for auction at this URL: http://komodo.ebay2.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2164640 I have no financial stake in this transaction and I can't identify it as line but if the collateral names (BEERS, WATSON, SEYMORE, FINCH) match up with yours, you might want to take a look. Let me apologize to any "purist" who feels that this posting is inappropriate and ask that any admonishions be directed to me at denewton@sktc.net and NOT to the list. -- Darwin Newton Cambridge KS denewton@sktc.net
