Does anyone have any information on this family? Mary Holloway b abt 1850 married Frank/Francis Cline and had one son Stewart Owen Cline born 1875 in Croyden Indiana. Mary died from an accidental poising from a cousin who was a pharmist. Can not find any information regarding the above info which is only family tradition. I have found a Mary Holloway who married a Francis Cline on-line from GENDEX but no dates supplied. In this it states that Mary Holloway parents are Leroy (George) Holloway b ElizabethTown Kentucky 1827 and her mother was Sallie Setzer. They were married in Gentry Co Missouri 1853 and Mary was born 1854. Leroy's father was George James Holloway b. 1798 in Jessaime Co Kentucky and died 1849. George James Holloway's wife was Martha Owen Spencer. My question is in your opinion could this Stewart Owen Cline be a gggrandchild of the above? I havent much experience in genealogy - to someone who has am I thinking correct - can anyone provide evidence to the above info? Thanks for your attention -- Sharon Asher srasher@ionet.net
About the Holloway Book, it would be helpful if we had the birth date or the wife's name of the author's George Holloway. I have 2 George's in my husband's Holloway line. Even though there would be several lines in the book I would appreciate at least knowing the birth date or wife's name of the author's line. I have lots of data on Holloway's, but not enough on my husband's line which is: 1. John Holloway b. 1555 Oxford, England d. 1593/1646 m. Elizabeth (last name unknown) bef 1580 .2 George Holloway b. 1590 England m. unknown ..3 James Holloway b. 1635 York Co, VA d. 7-17-1677 York Co, VA m. 1st Elizabeth No dates 2nd Ann No dates ...4 David Holloway b. 5-2-1664 York Co, VA d. 5-27-1732 York Co, VA m. Elizabeth Matthews. She d. 7-9-1736 .....5 George Holloway b. 2-20-1708/09 d. bef 1778 Brunswick, York Co, VA m. Elizabeth Carmack, she d. aft 1778 .......6 William Holloway b. 12-24-1734 York Co, VA d. 11-22-1784 VA m. Martha Ballard ..........7 Asa Holloway b. bef 1765 d. 9-24-1826 Edgefield Dist, SC. m. James, When you complete your work and have it ready for the public, I would like to purchase a copy. Please put me on your mailing list or send me the info on ordering one. You have put in many painstaking hours, it is obvious. A descendant of Johm P. Holloway Sandra Konczak 219 Market St. Baird, Texas 79504 email: skonczak@camalott.com
Dear Gary: Thanks for writing. I appreciate and share your concerns, but don't wish to be side-tracked by Mary Hill's kind announcement of our work-in-progress. Hopefully, this reply will nip time-consuming e-mails in the bud, and not necessitate others. Please forgive me if I cannot write more, or do not pull away from editing to construct a list of specific Holloways. In the middle of painstaking finish work, I simply don't have the cycles to answer such explicit e-mails. Candidly, this is why I'm compiling "HOLLOWAYS OF ENGLAND, COLONIAL VIRGINIA AND THE SOUTH" in the first place. It is of little use to expose its authentic contents, having labored so hard to discover and arrange them. I beg the family to understand I am working to create something beautiful, thorough and significant. Nonetheless, here's a little preview I pray satisfies the curious. As an American, I descend from George Holloway of Charles River Parish, who became a planter in Lunenburg/Mecklenburg, VA before the Revolutionary War.... BUT... my lineage is only one of many in our book. "HOLLOWAYS OF ENGLAND, COLONIAL VIRGINIA AND THE SOUTH" traces the origins of the first known Holloways in Middlesex (Middle Saxony), England and their migration across Great Britain and on to the earliest American settlements - most specifically Virginia. It follows their descendants, via individual family members and histories, through the Civil War. I stopped there, mainly because virtually everyone knows their great-grandparents. With numerous original, detailed charts, graphs, maps and illustrations rest assured, this is NOT an inconsequential work, nor your typically trite exhibit. Unoffended by the phone book interrogation, "HOLLOWAYS OF ENGLAND, COLONIAL VIRGINIA AND THE SOUTH" includes no Bell Telephone numbers, nor was any of it extracted from any phone index. Instead it contains official Census records, references to numerous original copies of Deeds, Wills et al. legal documents, personal references from many family members, and a culling of proven data that collates 900+ years of family history. In truth, it represents immeasurable hours of exhaustive, expensive research, and the first major contribution to Holloway family history in decades. I would be quite amazed, indeed, if its substantive findings disappoints anyone. That said, my task at hand is to finish it, not defend its forthcoming contents. While I appreciate and value your scrutiny - a healthy attitude in vigilantly verifying genealogical data - may "HOLLOWAYS OF ENGLAND, COLONIAL VIRGINIA AND THE SOUTH" stand on its own merits when released. Till then, please let me be about the task of lovingly, loyally laboring for every Holloway - living and deceased - to make you proud. A Deo Lux Nostra ("In GOD is our Light" ), I pledge to do so. A Deo Lux Nostra "In GOD is our Light" James David Holloway, Jr. Dallas, Texas P.S. If you would post this reply, I'd be deeply indebted to you, Gary. As I am more concerned with doing this right than doing it quickly, please be patient. I'll inform you when all is done. Once again, thank you kindly.
Any Holloways related to Martin L. Holloway son of Felix Holloway and Suzie Laws? Martin was born June 25, 1876 in Tazewell Va. Linda
Cora Mae HOLLOWAY b 2-2-1884 d 6-27-1927 was my gggrandma. I don't have anything on her parents only her huband and their children. She married Reeves Monroe RAMSEY. I don't even know where she is from. She lived in Walton Co FL. That is where they raised their family. Since Reeves was from Dale Co AL and then moved to Walton Co FL that might be where they meet or some where near there. I have so little to go on that anything would be helpful. Thank you Teri Craft
I agree that this sounds like a great book. But, I have three "telephone directories" on my bookshelf, complete with generic HOLLOWAY coat of arms. I am therefore a little skeptical. I'd like to hear others' thoughts. Hi, all! I'm descended from Joseph Hubbard Holloway, Jr. His grandmother and great-aunt were Hubbards (presumably of Virginia). I'm wondering if there are any other Holloway-Hubbard descendents who might have some info on the Hubbard family. thanks in advance! Family, How do you view this book? I would like to have one if it is a true representation of the Holloway Family. I have seen some people get really ripped off with a copy of names from phone books. Are any of you affiliated with these authors? Sorry to be skeptical but 50 bucks is alot for me to gamble with as I have two kids in college. Thanks, Becky
The following is part of an e-mail I received from James Holloway, talking about his upcoming book __Holloways of England, Virginia and the South__. "We'd love to post news of our upcoming release, and too, we're more than open to receiving files, photos or stories (whatever) from any Holloway family member. When we are through telling our ancestor's story, you will come to recognize how and where nearly every American Holloway is related. It is truly wonderful discovery. We're creating a little"Preview Page" at http://starharbor.com/holloways.html (with more to add), BUT we may have to change "Coming this Summer" to "Coming this FALL". We'll let you know. This is a far larger task than we originally estimated. Thanks again." You can reach Jim at captain@starharbor.com if you would like to make a contribution of lineages, stories, photos, etc. Mary Hill tonymary@bellsouth.net
I posted a query a couple of weeks ago about Matthew Holloway and the response was **overwhelming**! Everybody was so kind. . .and I found two more generations because of the list! That means I have new questions! Is anybody out there researching in Monroe County, Tennessee? I have Minter Holloway, b. 1782, possibly in VA, possibly in Orange County, NC. There has been some speculation that he is a brother to Bremillion. He appears on the 1830 Monroe County, TN census. He married Marjory Pate and they had ten children. I only have the names of the three youngest: John A., Ruth and Matthew who all moved to Pope County, Illinois. The seven older children may have stayed in Monroe County. TIA! Mary Hill tonymary@bellsouth.net
I am descended from Elizabeth HOLLOWAY b.1810, wife of John GIBBONS. She was the dau. of Isham H* b.1766, son of Samuel H* who died in Jasper Cnty, GA (1814). Samuel's wife was supposedly Judith HUBBARD. Some info states that Samuel was the son of John H* b. 1696 in VA. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows about this line. Tom Rogers dtrogers@dbtech.net
Jim, I am curious to know your Holloway Family line. There are so many books being published that are just copies of telephone directories, and so may of us Holloways are leary of ordering a book without knowing a bit more about the publisher and the contents. Would appreciate your comment on this. Pat Holloway hollow@usit.net

HI - anybody out there? I've just joined the list but it seems very quiet so I hope there are readers out there! For my American "cousins" I am sorry to say that I have no established connections Stateside. For UK researchers my HOLLOWAY family are firmly rooted in the Medway towns - Chatham, Rochester and Gillingham (details back to c1800.) My grandfather, John Henry William Holloway b.1875 was a Farrier and moved to Islington London as soon as he finished his apprenticeship (somewhere around 1890 or perhaps a few years earlier). He married FLORENCE BEATRICE HUSK in 1898 and raised a family before moving back to Chatham in 1913. We do not know why he decided to go to Islington but it is known that other Holloway's lived there at that time. I am therefore wondering if there was a family connection and that someone offered him a job or living accommodation. So does anyone have HOLLOWAY connections in Islington say 1850 - 1900? Anyone have info on HUSK from Islington? ALSO trying to make connections with the Royal Engineers. G.Grandfather lived close to the Brompton Barracks (Home of The Royal Engineers). There were at least 2 VIP Holloway's in the RE's in the late 18th and early 19th century's. G.Grandmother referred "loosely" to there being a Spanish connection in the blood line which could indicate Gibraltar with which the RE's were very much associated. There seems to be plenty for me to research but I have only just started. Anyone able to make a connection for/with me? David Richard Holloway
I haven't posted in a while and the list has been oh-so-quiet. I thought I'd see if anybody could connect with my line. Matthew Holloway, b. 1821, Tennessee m. Miranda Triplett, b. 1826 in North Carolina Note: Matthew served in the 60th Illinois Infantry, USA, which saw action at Corinth, MS, among other places. He appears on the 1860 Pope County, Illinois census in Broad Oak P.O. He appears on the 1870 Franklin County, Arkansas census in White Oak Township. 1 Jul 1875 he filed homestead on 80 acres in White Oak Township, Franklin County, Arkansas. Matthew & Miranda had the following children: Salina Holloway (n.d.) Elizabeth Holloway (n.d.) James "Mint" Holloway, b. 1850, Pope County, Illinois m. Eliza Jane David Holloway, b. 1851, Pope County, Illinois John M. Holloway, b. 1853, Pope County, Illinois, m. Mary E. Sison William J. Holloway, b. 1856, Pope County, Illinois Mary Hildreth Holloway, b. 1865, Pope County, Illinois Mary Hildreth Holloway m. Charles Lee Melton before 1888. Family tradition says that they were married in Greene County, Missouri (Charles's birthplace), but there is no record in either Arkansas or Missouri of this marriage. Mary died 12 Oct 1896 in Franklin County, Arkansas, of St. Anthony's Fire. **Any** information would place the provider on a level of sainthood! We have no idea where Matthew came from, besides the ambigous "Tennessee" provided by the census, or who his parents were. We can't explain the move from Franklin County to Greene County and back. TIA! Mary Hill tonymary@bellsouth.net
Does anyone have this family in their tree? There is a chance that they were related to the Melungeon people. Any help with ancestors would be appreciated. Thanks. He referred to the dates on her tombstone from the begining...to the end. He noted that first came the date of her birth and spoke of the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years. For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth... and now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth. For it matters not, how much we own; the cars....the house...the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard... are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left. (You could be at "dash mid-range.") If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real, and always try to understand the way other people feel. And be less quick to anger, and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respect, and more often wear a smile... remembering that this special dash might only last a little while. So, when your eulogy's being read with your life's actions to rehash... would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash? --------------34AEF3B81BC8436CE35CA9B7--
My father was Atha Carmel Holloway, b.1914 in Moko, Fulton Co., Arkansas; his father was Robert Allen Holloway, b. 1879 in Tennessee; his father was William Allen Holloway, b. 1856 in Tennessee; and I think his father (but it might be an uncle) was Robert W. Holloway, b. 1832 in Tennessee. These men are all (except Carmel) buried in Moko, Arkansas. I would like to subscribe to the mailing list for the Holloway surname. I am really at a stand point on this line. Mary Lee (Holloway) Allen 8720 N.W. 23rd Street Oklahoma City, Oklahoma mlee109@msn.com or mlee109@aol.com
