    1. [HOLLOWAY-L] Isaac and Charles Holloway - Northumberland Co. 1800
    2. Scott John
    3. According to a set of books called "Emigrants and Passengers Lists" there were three Holloway men in Pennsylvania; William,James and another whose names escapes me. All arrived between 1725 - 1729. If anyone has the ancestry of any of these particularly the Isaac and Charles who show up Northumberland Co. 1800 census. Thanx. John scott-ferree

    3. Gary I would like to join the Holloway mailing list. My great Gandmother was Jane Holloway and she married Frederick Green in Plymouth, Devon in 1868 and then they moved to Exeter where my grandmother was born in 1869. Jane then died in Exeter in 1871. Her father was John Holloway and she had a brother William. That is as far as I have got so far and would welcome the chance to talk to anyone else researching the English Holloways. 3. Holloway Book by David Holloway First of all some of you apparentley are writing to Blessing Butler about this book, she doesn't have anything to do with it. The book is being written by David Holloway, and apparentley some of you have written him some rather shall we say un-necessary notes, questioning his book. The purpose of posting a note to the list was to inform those of you that might be interested that a book was coming out that might help all of us. It was not necessary to send him notes about his book that apparentley weren't too friendly. If you are not interested in the book keep it to yourself. Gary listowner Holloway list.

    1. [HOLLOWAY-L] Unsubscribe
    2. Dear Gary, It's a sorry day when a simple book announcement is classified as a "controversy". What a dismal mind set for people with too much time on their hands. My publisher is amazed to learn that instead of saying thanks for all the hard word, a good many Holloways feel they're entitled to critique - and downright inquisition - my book, while it isn't even available yet. Lacking the brashness to write any author and the rudeness to tell them how to conduct their research, the insulting, presumptive innuendo of those who have penned such uncharitable emails is very disappointing. Indeed! While I am not dis-swayed by anyone's impoliteness, as before said (Apparently, I was talking to the wall.), I do not have time to start a writing campaign to defend - exhaustively documented and credited - scholarly research that needs no defense. If this book were a doctoral thesis, it would stand on its own merit. In all candor, it's of no consequence to me if anyone purchases "Holloways of England, Colonial Virginia and the South" or not. It is a LIMITED EDITION, and for all practical purposes is already pressed. Mary Hill's announcement on my behalf was an act of charity to merely inform others that a family book was being written. It is a shame, indeed, that the warring and abrasive climate of our times is such that far too many individuals can't refrain from offering their vain "2 cents worth" to the minutest of happenings. To these sorry folks, I say GET A LIFE. To the few who have written hopeful and encouraging letters, I say GOD LOVE YOU. To any who doubt the veracity of my words or the scientific intent and analytical method of my writing, I refer you to 400+ page book on the Mother of GOD, Holy Cross Press has placed online (with my permission) at http://starharbor.com/holycross/gospel.html. If you think I can pen such a detailed book as "Our Lady of Guadalupe The Last Gospel" out of love for God, and be any less thorough in writing of our holy ancestors for love of them, think again. This said, as I bid you "adieu" to work in peace, Gary, please pass my gratitude to the kind in your midst, and my prayers for conversion to those puffed up with themselves. Working to expose the TRUTH of our heritage, I suspect the fear of substantiated facts have unsettled the latter. So be it. In GOD is our Light, James David Holloway, Jr.

    3. TO: _____ James Holloway RE: The Holloway book controversy As a person who has spent some 20-odd years in Holloway research -- and as a former research librarian with 30-odd years' experience assisting historians, graduate students, genealogists -- I'm interested in your project. General criteria for evaluating a published work in genealogy, from the view of the purchaser, whether private or institutional, include: 1) Are sources clearly stated? & authority footnoted for every claim, especially if controversial? 2) Does the author specify his indebtedness to other researchers? 3) Does he recognize copyright restrictions, avoiding infringement of blanket prohibitions such as the LDS includes on every document reproduced? Specific matters I'd question so far: 1) the compiler/author traces his ancestry to an 18th century George Holloway in VA, while asserting connections to the first known Holloways in England, and interrelationships of most American Holloways. Holloways are in Virginia and New Jersey in the 1600's; has he established connections among them on the basis of fact, precisely cited? Exactly what sources has he searched? 2) The "information" he's going to sell in his book, how much of that was he given for free by other researchers? 3) To what genealogical journals and/or societies will he present copies of his book for review? Would be interested to see James David Holloway, Jr. address these questions. Sincerely, Lisabeth M. Holloway, MLS
