Dear Listmembers, Since we have begun a new year I thought I should post my Holloway ancestors and see if anyone can help. I have a Rhoda Holloway born about 1733. She married Stephen Crane son of Azariah Crane. They had several children among them was a daughter named Lois Crane who was born in 1760 and died in 1831. Lois married Justus Burnett. I am seeking more information regarding this particular Holloway line. I thought at one point that I had that information but now I can't seem to locate it. Thank you for your help and patience, Audrey Moran ramoran@amigo.net
I have ancestors begging to be found, let's do genealogy, folks, not politics!
OK. Here we go again. Dear Nancy S., Thank you for this info. Please note regarding the 1st address you've given - that when I attempted to go there, I rec'd the message of it being an erroneous address. However, the second resulted in obtaining the information needed to resolve this and I have marked THE SECOND ADDRESS accordingly, as I hope everyone will do as well. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience my reaction may have caused. However, considering the level of mistrust presently exhibited by our government it is certainly not unimaginable. We support an income tax system that is unconstitutional, have taxation without representation, and are charged for services- phone co. to long distance provider- web browser - internet service, etc., to be able to access yet other services. "When the major networks and or broadcasters sued a news package [PrimeTime24] provided by satellite services an injunction was issued by the U.S. District Court for Southern Florida to stop the sales within broadcasters' "grade B" signal areas, defined by the FCC as viewable 50% of the time by 50% of the area's residents. This ruling may affect as many as one million dish owners." [ John Linder, Member of Congress from Georgia] I feel that his numbers are much lower than this. What this means is that people who live in areas given no choice , where there is no local broadcasting available to receive the broadcasts of the major news networks because regular antennae won't reach, or cable services aren't available have no voice in what they are able to freely access. They will no longer - after February 28, 1999, be allowed to receive satellite delivery of so called -"local signals" - even when there is no local programming choice available to them. The choice to use a satellite system is clearly not always a case of cable versus satellite. Through this action, the government is deciding what we are allowed to hear and see- even if it isn't affecting you personally at this juncture. Given examples such as the above, I fail to see the suprise in anything attempted to place even more charges, taxes, etc. on our society. It is the responsibility of each citizen to be aware of everything that affects our neighbors to prevent violations against our basic rights, especially "free speech." We can't become complacent with the goings on of government, because the representatives there work for each of us, by representing us. Every now and then we must remind ourselves that the men and women there are nothing more than ordinary "people" and they make many mistakes as each of us do. [This being well illustrated through my reaction stemming from being the over zealous person that I am.] Just the same, we have to maintain a level of awareness in order to maintain our freedoms. I can't apologize for my genuine concern, or being unaware of how to check these matters out, since we can't know these things until we are told. However, I am truly sorry if there was any needless concern caused by me, even inadvertently. Hopefully, each of us will check things out before "sharing." To be certain, I know that I will. ........gaelcee --------- > From: NMorri3924@aol.com > To: GAELCEE@worldnet.att.net; upollard@neark.com; WAS333@aol.com; t.vogler@juno.com; shirleyreed@earthlink.net; Bantie1@aol.com; romanek@cybertrails.com; wilsons@muc.edu; Dover_R@juno.com; RDover@pioneerbancshares.com; PWUN@worldnet.att.net; mmanson@snet.net; Melungeon-L-request@rootsweb.com; eporter@cot.net; ashlee1@bellsouth.net; mgarreans@PRTCNET.com; tubbz@hcis.net; mermaid__@rocketmail.com; LOOPER-L@rootsweb.com; KIRKPATRICK-L@rootsweb.com; sasepooh@mindspring.com; jjordan2@ix.netcom.com; Cloversc@aol.com; Jackson-Clay-Overton-Co-Tn-D-request@rootsweb.com; jpunneo@chatfreepress.mindspring.com; HOUSE-L@rootsweb.com; HOLLOWAY-L@rootsweb.com; GAFRANKL-L@rootsweb.com; Gaelcee@aol.com; ELMORE-L@rootsweb.com; ELLIS-L@rootsweb.com; elaine@ecsis.net; DOVER-L@rootsweb.com; dwarren@coastalnet.com; ddover@earthlink.net; Cowfarb@aol.com; corky@wtrt.net; Leway@aol.com; Cloud-L@rootsweb.com; cnrdover@vol.com; GACHEROK-L@rootsweb.com; bkduncan@swbell.net; bsteele@magicnet.net; ARTBEV@aol.com; bcourter@chatfreepress.mindspring.com; Anthony.McManaman@smtpgw.msc.Navy.mil > Subject: Re: Fw: Internet Charges -HOAX!!!!! > Date: Tuesday, January 12, 1999 1:52 PM > > IF YOU RECEIVED A POST ON INTERNET CHARGES AND SENT IT ON, YOU ARE > PARTICIPATING IN A > > hoax!!! > > Pls do not pass on any information that you have not checked PERSONALLY even > if it comes from your mother or your pastor. > > Here are two sites where you can check out hoaxes: > > <A HREF="http://www.nonprofit.net/hoax/hoax.html">Don't Spread that Hoax!</A> > > http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac?CIACHoaxes.html > > Put these sites into your favorites list and use them before you send > something that was made by someone who needs to get a life!!! > Nancy S

I am searching for information on a man named Jim Holloway. I believe that he was born about 1860 in Georgia. His father was a minister, born in Tennessee. His mother was born in Alabama. The family may have moved to Texas..........Jim committed a murder there about 1880. He was sent to prison but escaped along with another man who was named Dan Scott. Jim changed his named to "Walter Moore" and eventually made his way to Arkansas where he married Mary Jane Walker in 1882. They settled in Alexander Co, Illinois (extreme Southern part of state) and had nine children. "Walter" died there in 1924. It is rumored that he left a wife and child (or children) in Texas when he fled. If anyone has any information which might help me trace Jim Holloway, a.k.a. Walter Moore, I would appreciate hearing from them. Marty moonbb1@midwest.net

If you will visit the us postal site that was provided, there is an email icon for writing comments. I wrote a polite, but firm letter of protest and inquiry about the matter on behalf of the Odom Library. I hope that others will also look into this. T. Forgive me if you get duplicates of this message -- I'm trying to publish it as widely as I can by sending it to all the lists I'm subscribed to. Here's an opportunity for us to show just what genealogists can do by working together. Please forward this to as many individuals and mailing lists as you can. The Family Tree Magazine, published by Odom Library in Moultrie, GA, is a **major** resource for genealogists in the US and other locations. While it has a predominantly Scottish orientation, the bi-monthly magazine is something that many of us read from cover to cover for all sorts of tidbits. The paper is self-supporting through ads and postage donations -- there is no subscription charge to the more than 65,000 people who receive a copy. According to an article in the December/January issue, the US Postal Service (which I'm sure has made a flipping fortune off genealogists, and which announced a rate increase as of 10 January, and which wouldn't be facing financial woes if it ran more efficiently -- end of soapbox) has assessed a HUGE fine on Odom Library and the Family Tree Magazine -- nearly $80,000 -- because the magazine contains travel information. Apparently, the postal inspector said it's okay to have articles about travel, since travel is a part of genealogy, but "someone might have fun on one of the trips." That is too ludicrous to warrant a response! All the appeals so far, including Congressional inquiries from Georgia legislators, have been denied or ignored. On top of that, the USPS <insert your favorite derogatory epithet here> inspectors decided that, while the Moultrie Public Library was a non-profit organization and entitled to use its mailing permit, the Odom Library (which has always been a part of the Moultrie Library) is not. What can we do about this? Write letters. Send e-mails. Inundate the USPS site (www.usps.gov) with complaints. Write, call, and e-mail your Congress critters. We have to save Family Tree Magazine -- not just for its own sake, but to prevent the USPS from investigating and placing similar sanctions against all the other genealogical publications out there. Now -- go have fun on a genealogy trip and send a postcard to the Postmaster General to let him know you did it! <vbg> And get that stack of snailmail genealogy correspondence caught up before 10 January, or it will cost you more to send it!

I know there are mistakes in this account. I need to find my records of the Family Bible from GA. The Family Bible has Sarah Griffin as the first wife and the mother of all the children. I hope that this will help in some way. I love to hear from you. Smiles, Paula HOLLOWAY, WILLIAM R.S. 1757-1850 BROOKS COUNTY William Holloway, a Revolutionary soldier, lived for many years in Bulloch County before moving to this section. He was born in North Carolina in 1747. His first wife was Orpha but her maiden name is unknown. The marriage took place in North Carolina. She died in Bulloch County, Georgia, about 1825. Mr. Holloway married a second time but her maiden name cannot be learned. She is shown on the records of Bethel Church, Brooks County, as Mrs. Sarah Holloway, received by letter August, 1828, expelled June 4, 1831, for "long absence, having moved out of reach of the church and also for her desorderly walk. According to Mr. Griffin Holloway, 90-year-old grandson, the facts of her case were that she was dissatisfied with the new home in this frontier country, and desired to return to her old home. Failing in her importunities to get him to return she went back anyway and was adjudged guilty of "desorderly walk," There were no children by the second marriage. The children by the first wife Orpha, were: 1. Lavina b. 1790, m. Tarleton Swain, Moved West. Lost sight of. 2. Nancy b. 1792, m. Ansel Parrish, Feb. 26, 1814. 3. Matthew b. 1797, m. ______ Wilson. Died about 1840, no issue known. 4. William, Jr. b. 1802, m. Elizabeth Edmondson, daughter of Isaac, R.S. 5. James b. 1805, m. Judith Hendry, dau. of John. Moved to Fla. 6. Roxie Ann b. 1808, m. James Alderman, son of David, R.S. 7. Catherine b. 1814, m. Jessie J. Albritton, son of Matthew. 8. Susannah b. 1819, m. William Smith, Jan 8, 1835. 9. Griffin b. 1822, m. Sina Selph, June 9, 1842, dau. of Thomas. 10. Orpha Lee b. 1825, m. Lasa Adams, Apr. 17, 1842. Mr. Holloway moved with his family from Bulloch to Thomas County in 1827, settling in the territory now in Brooks County. His home and plantation was about six miles north-east of present Barwick, on a place now known as the Bell place east of Mule Creek. Mr. Holloway died there in 1850, age 93 years, and was buried at Bethel Church. The grave's location is known and will be marked with appropriate exercises soon. William Holloway was commissioned as Captain of the Bulloch County Militia in the 45th district, May 15, 1804 and served several years. He served as Justice of Peace in the 638rd District of Thomas County, 1828-1829, and in the 763rd District, 1830-1832 and again 1838-1841. His will dated Nov. 2, 1844, was probated in Thomas County Oct. 2, 1850. His sons, William and Griffin, were named executors. His last years were spent with his son, Griffin. In the Revolutionary War Mr. Holloway served in the North Carolina militia (see page 387, Roster of Soldiers from N.C. in the American Revolution. Mr. Holloway had a sister, Elizabeth, who married James William, R.S. (q.v.), also a brother, James Holloway, who remained in Bulloch County. The following instruments are of record in Bulloch County, Deed of Gift from William Holloway, Sr., to his son, James Holloway, dated Dec. 15, 1829, conveying grantor's hogs, cattle, sheep, horses and 2000 acres of land with its improvements, on Lott's Creek, reserving life estate in the grantor, and specifying that if grantee dies before his father does, then the property shall be divided between others of the grantor's children, viz: Roxie Ann Alderman, Vina (Lavina) Holloway, Matthew Holloway and Griffin Holloway. Deed Book 4-A, page 517. also.... Bill sale from William Holloway, Sr. to son, William Holloway, Jr. dated Dec. 15, 1826, conveying eight slaves and all of grantor's household goods. The same terms govern as in the above deed, except that the property was to go to Catherine, Susannah and Orphalee Holloway if the grantee should die prior to his father. I was told I could subscribe to a newsletter regarding Holloway Genealogy and I am interested in anything I can find out about the Holloways in Georgia and Alabama. Particularly interested in anything possible about Christopher Columbus Holloway born in GA abt 1829 and located in Coffee County AL in 1850. Also Vincent (Vinson) Holloway born in GA abt 1826 and located in Coffee County AL 1850. Appreciate any help. Gerry
I posted an inquiry earlier in the week and I apologize. My request wasn't as precise as it should have been so I will post it now as it should be. I am Audrey Moran and I am looking for the parents and siblings of Rhoda Holloway. I have no birth or death information for her. However, I do have that information for her husband and the only child I have listed for them. Rhoda married Stephen Crane, born abt 1733 in Newark, Essex, New Jersey. Stephen died in 1794 in West Bloomfield, New Jersey. The only child I have listed for them is Lois Crane. Lois was born on 11 May 1760 in Essex, West Bloomfield, New Jersey. She died on 7 Nov. 1831 in Hanover, Essex, New Jersey. Lois married Justus Burnett. I have a listing of their children (I am a descendant of this line). I also have a listing of Stephen Crane's family. Thank your for your patience, Audrey Moran
