In the case of this family, however, I can't find my way out of the mess that's been created. Here's the problem in as few words as I can manage..... and I apologize in advance if this gets long and involved. First, I have a note in my file for Joseph A. Hoffpauir (the person you list as Myrtle's father). The note says: "An old record (probably from Lamar's data) has Joseph married to Alice Stutes". For this Joseph A. Hoffpauir, I have as his wife Mary Spell, as recorded in the Lafayette Parish Court House record no. 7991. Now I also have a Joseph Hoffpauir as married to Alice Stutes, but this Joseph I have as Joseph L. Hoffpauir, as recorded in the Acadia Parish marriage records, marriage no. 2301. So my basic problem is then, what is correct? Is Myrtle's parents Joseph and Alice Stutes (as you have it) or is it Joseph and Mary Spell? Complicating this is some more information I have that lists the brothers and sisters of Myrtle as Fadra R. Hoffpauir who married Cornelius Faulk (Acadia Parish marriage no. 13963), Gertrude Hoffpauir who married Eldon King (no suurce information recorded for this), and Ruth Hoffpauir who married Murrel (Murrell) Morgan (Acadia Parish marriage no. 17709). But I haven't actually seen any of the source documents, so I don't know if any of these marriages list the parents or not. could you look in your notes, and see if you have parents names recorded for any of these children (other than for Myrtle, who I assume you have the parents recorded as Joseph and Alice Stutes). Also, could you check your source material for the marriage of Joseph and Alice Stutes and make certain that you have it as Joseph A and not actually Joseph L., as the Acadia Parish marriage record has it?
