Charlie, from all accounts (written and verbal) it appears that Thomas Hoffpauir was in the NO area for a while... and prob. married there.. it is said that Amelia the dght. was born in the Orleans District.... from all accounts it seems he was there in 1778... it has been recorded that Amelia was born in N.O. (stating she was a native of N.O.)...the earliest est. record that they were married is in the Marr. Records of St. Martinville and Opelousas circa 1800 (H.I. 289) Father Hebert's books Southwest La. Records by Father Donald Hebert, vol. 1-5. After 1781 all references detail they were in St. Landry Parish. Their olest child, their dght, Amelia married Pierre Stutes on 1-25-1796 (so family must have been in Opelousas area at that time.) In researching the Foreman lineage it is determined that they lived (many still reside) in the area of Slidell, LA. Feel certain that Thomas met Marie Charlotte Perrillard (Perierd) (spelling per record H.I.289). He was a member of th 4th Co. Artillery, of the New Orleans Militia under Galvez (from this it is evident that he was in the Orleans area in about 1778. (the year of the big fire). Wish I could find how/when the Perrilard family came to La. from Canada. Of course we know he was in the militia (under DeClouet) as listed 7-30-1785. No, cannot say how he got there, or when, via which route from Alsace-Lorraine. I have a copy of the Lafayette Parish Marriage Records #1 Part 1 1823-1830 with Gen. notes compiled by Harold Prejean, Jr. (this is the family lineage of my Mother) and references/dates/notes on Thomas Hoffpauir/Amelia Hoffpauir are included. His records are from churches, Father Hebert books, cemeteries, periodicals and records of Monsignor George Bodin. Some copies of abstracts, and documents is included.
