    3. Linda, how 'exciting'.... Several years ago a member of the Hoffpauir family (cannot remember her name now) who went to the Alsace - Lorraine area and met some of the Hofbauer/Houghpauir/Haufpauer's and reported on this visit at our annual reunion on Labor Day... has been about 10 years or so ago... she advised she had info. on one ancestor who is a catholic nun who resides in the USA... We feel certain that this is our family origin area...I live in Louisiana and am Regent for the Daughters of Am. Rev... we plan to place a marker in the Indian Bayou Cemetery to honor the memory of Thomas Hoffpauir who served with Galvez (they were living on the German Coast near New Orleans).... please keep in touch... I would love to go to Austria/Germany sometime.. am planning a trip to Rome, Vienna, Florence, Paris and London in 2000 (15 days)... will try to make Austria another year.. I have been doing a lot of research in the Alsace-Lorrain theory and on realizing that the area was a part of the Austrian-Hungarian empire and remembering how often I see name the name Hofbauer in austria, I went to the library in Vienna and spoke with several people there. Although you do see the name Hoffbauer/hofbauer in Germany it appears that it is most often of Austrian origin. That was just an opinion which I hope to follow up on. I did find a current Thomas Hofbauer in Vienna and also a listing of one in Hungary. This will add to my research in trying to find some origins for our Thomas I hope. > >so the hunt goes on.
