    3. Cathy, Actually, it's my understanding that the Granger family made the voyage some 2 years before the ill-fated voyage that landed in Texas. there was a Granger family aboard the ship that was named either the Jane or the Virgin, in 1767. The head of the family was named Eneas Granger. They arrived at the mouth of the mississippi 12 July 1767, were in New Orleans 2 weeks later, and eventually disembarking in the Fort St. Gabriel area. The voyage that detoured through Texas started on 5 Jan 1769 (the ship was named Britannia). They ended up in the Espirity Santo Bay area of Texas, where the Spanish officials imprisoned the crew for almost a month and confiscated the ship. Families mentioned in the list that marched back to Louisiana include Benoit (my ancester Olivier), Latier, Rivet, Trahan, Belar, LeJeune, and Prinne. Most of these ended up in the Opelousas area, as did Thomas Hoffpauir, so i naturally searched for some evidence of him among this group. If he was among the Alsatians who travelled from Europe to Maryland, then he may not have been mentioned among the Acadians who joined the boat in Maryland. And, there may not have been any mention of him in Maryland records either, since I understand that the boat only landed in Maryland to disembark passengers bound for there, replinish supplies, add the passengers bound for Louisiana, and then sailed again.
