    1. Austin Dailey Clan
    2. To all I am making the following changes to my files. I am dropping Pearl Daily and Alma Richard Dailey as children of Austin Dailey. I had made a educated guess as they gave their parents at marriage as A E Dailey & Carnezie or Mazie with no maiden name. As Pearl was born in Ebenezer & since much of Austin's family relocated to Calcasieu Parish at times, I made this assumption. This is also where I got the E in Austin E Dailey. Another guess as he had a first cousin Austin Edward Wagner. Seemed at the time to fit. It helps if you actually know the people & not only use courthouse records. However this still leaves 7 children for Austin Dailey & Mary Ann Hoffpauir, to wit: Adam Eugene, Avery, Isabelle, Julia, Ruth, Rachel, & Iva Mae. I do not know where I got Hazel in Hazel Ruth Dailey. However, I will continue seeking the source. The 1900 census for Acadia Parish listed for Austin Dailey family, Semantha b Nov 1884, Alice b Aug 1888, Aran b Feb 1896, Avery b Feb 1898, Isabell b Nov 1899. It appears that Eva was either deceased or married. Some of this old information from census are problems because often children would live with aunts & uncles for short periods of times during economic difficulties & times of difficult pregnancies. Names like Mary Ann, Melinda Ann, Melissa Ann are often confused as many people could not read or write & thus the names were spelled by the person recording them as they heard them (Mariann, Meledian, Melissan, etc) They were later spelled more correctly by those who were fortunate enough to receive an education. My great grand mother's name on her marriage is recorded as Civena Foreman and her descendents say it was Sevanaugh Foreman, however she coud not read or write so how could it be other than what was recorded. Another good example is the name Dailey as it is most often spelled in Indian Bayou & Ebenezer. It is also in the same family spelled Daily, Daley & Daly. The problem came about because James Dailey from Hardin County, KY could not read or write so a recorder could take his pick of spellings. It was Daly in Ky where his father was literate. Now who are A E Dailey & Carnezie "Mazie" ? Thank for the help Felton
