Hi, Just to let you know that I am working on these names. Have gone through chips list gathering these and their entry points to US and where they seem to wind up--many were after Thomas and are found in Ohio, Kentucky, and many in Iowa. Am also working from the other side too. Have made a list of Hoffpauer/Hofpauers in France in general and also in Alcase Lorrain. Lists in Germany and Austria are endless, but I am focusing around German area near Alsace and Lorraine. Cantons in Switzerland also have show these names. I hope to send letters to the Hoffbauer names I have found in Alsace and will keep you posted. Found two HOffbauer artists from France. and also a famous painter who paintings are in many galleries in the US....his name CHARLES HOFFBAUER. The older artist is an F. Hoffbauer and did some wonderful paintings, etchings and sketches around Paris in the 1800s. I don't know of any way to determine if they are related to our man or not, since we need to determine exactly where he came from, and then who his relations were in the old country, and then work toward the time of the more recent emigrations.
