David, I agreee, there is another Tillman. I found one listed in the phone book in Ruidoso, NM. I think that is the one Ashley is looking for. I received an e-mail message from someone a few days ago trying to locate a friend that had moved from California to Louisiana. The reason for posting here is that this friend is a Hoffpauir... his name is Anthony James Hoffpauir (or maybe it's James Anthony Hoffpauir). He is probably in his early 30's, and he was living in Bakersfield CA in 1997-1998. His friend thinks he moved "back" to Crowley, LA, (which to me implies that he was probably born there) to live with his Mother and a sister. This doesn't fit anyone that I have in my database, but I know my data is very sparse on any Hoffpauirs outside of the Louisiana-Texas area, so I though someone on the list might know who this is, and how he fits into the family. In Felton's eulogy, he mentioned a Nettie Hoffpauir Abshire, but didn't mention a date. I wonder is this is the Nettie Abshire that died 5 Sep 1999? The Hoffpauir Family Reunion was held Monday, Sep 6. It appeared to me to be a big success, but there were not as many attending as there were last year, nor were family members travelling from as far away. (This was my first year) Last year, the door prize for the family member travelling farthest was won by a cousin from California.... this year a cousin from Ft. Worth Texas won it. Still, there was an impressive number of people, filling the Indian Bayou Church. Since several of you have asked in e-mail messages about the reunion, I'm trying to arrange to get the minutes of the meeting either posted to the mail list, or maybe set up on a web site so anyone interested can read and see what was discussed. Although several activities seem to be underway, the one that struck me as most interesting is a project to install a plaque honoring our ancestor, Thomas Hoffpauir, at the Indian Bayou cemetery. Hopefully, we can get a copy of the minutes, which will explain what is going on in more detail. Although the theme of the reunion is not genealogy, many members did spend the entire afternoon discussing the various sections of the family tree. Some wanted to correct information that Felton or Buddy or I have in our data, others needed additional information to help them in researching their family trees. Weldon was there, and had a handful of copies of Buddy Hoffpauir's update to Will Hoffpauir's genealogy book for sale. Weldon said they were selling them at what it cost him to reproduce them, and he quickly sold out the few copies he had available. Hopefully, he can get more printed for those that want to buy a copy, He also had revisions.... any new information received over the past year.... available for $1.00. The full book with binder was selling for $40.00. Because of the interest in the books, and because of the high cost of printing them, I have updated my version of the Hoffpauir Genealogy and uploaded it to the web. Those of you not familiar with this may want to spend some time on-line looking through it. My goal was to have it updated by next month, but I put preliminary copies up today, and dated them with tomorrow's date. For those already familiar with Buddy's book, the format of my book will seem a little awkward. I tried to pattern it after Will Hoffpauir's book as much as possible, but since his was originally typewritten, and mine is generated by a genealogy program, this was as close as I could get. A big advantage over Will/Buddy's book is (in my opinion) the full index of names at the back of my book. One of our cousins has indexed all of the Hoffpauir's in Will's book, and will be getting that index to Weldon so it can be included in the future. But to index the entire book would be a massive job. I put what I call a "small" version and a "large" version of the book on the web. The large version includes notes and source citations. If you aren't interested in that, you can save some time by downloading the small version. The names are the same in each version. Janie, I haven't seen any answers posted to your question..... hopefully someone has e-mailed you dierctly if anyone knows the asnwers. All I can provide is a small clue.... that is, that I show 5 children for William and Susan, and three of them are buried in the Ebenezer Church Cemetery. So I think it possible that William and Susan may be in unmarked graves at Ebenezer. If you're anywhere near there, it might be worthwhile to visit the church and have a talk with Bob Faulk, the cemetery caretaker.
