Hoffpauir folks If possible please send a photo copy of the loose pages in the Bible to Charlie Hoffpauir so he can post it to his web page. I saw this Bible in the late 1960's when it was in the posession of Donald Hoffpauir who lived on Street of Love in Lafayette. He offered to give me the Bible back then but I was afraid I was not responsible enough for such a rare posession (I was about 23 or 24 at the time. It was probable a good thing, as I moved 9 times after that. When I moved to Lafayette in 1981, I contacted Donald to inquire about the Bible and he said he had given it to a cousin in Oklahoma and it was probably now in Lake Charles. I have wondered ever since what happened to it. Although not descended from Franc(o)is Hoffpauir, there were listings for Jacob Higginbotham & his children from whom I am descended. I would love to have a photo copy of the loose pages & the pages included in the Bible if possible. It would be also a great source for Charlie's web page. I remember it was in good shape although the loose pages were faded. Just a little history for you beginners. Lucky for me I did have enough since to hand copy the pages, as copy machines were scarce in those days. Felton

I would be very interested in the information on Francis (s/o Thomas 1). If you don't want to post it on the board, then please send it to my email: dulcich6@aolcom. Tahnk you , Sharon
I would also be interested in photos of this line. I believe Charlie sent me one as an e-mail attachment and wonder if it is the same one Linda has. Please feel free to post the URL to the entire list, others may be curious to see what they looked like even if not from this line. HI, for all those of the Frank and Malissa line and anyone else too!! I have a really nice professional photo of Malissa and Frank. Am not certain of the date. They are quite "mature". If anyone would like a copy, I will post it on a photo site and you can copy it. Let me know who is interested and I will respond with the web address. I am trying to accumulate photos so if anyone has photos of this family line let me know. You can upload them to the site or email them to me and I can put them there. List I have Ambroise as a child of John Hardy Hoffpauir's sister Euphamie Hoffpauir. I think it would be pressing it for John Hardy to have a chid in Dec of 1846 and then Dec of 1847 with both living. However it could have happened. It is also possible that John Hardy might have arranged for his sister's child to be given to a family but if he gave one of his children away, why not more of them. I also have 4 John Hardy Hoffpauirs and none married to Amy Babineaux. Where does Amy Babineaux come from. Her name sounds familiar. Felton
Absolutely, I want this picture of my gggrandparents. Please send website URL to me. Also, I have several pictures of Frank and my grandmother Mineola with her children. Are you interested in any of those? Sharon dulcich6@aol.com
Today I received some information from Cathering Hoffpauir Fischer. She says that her Father recalled that John Hardy Hoffpauir gave Ambroise to the Richards family as a young boy. This is consistant with some information I had for Ambroise, such as the 1860 ceneus showing him listed as living with the family of Jean Richard and Zelonise Plaisance. However, in looking at the information I have for John Hardy Hoffpauir, I am beginning to believe that I have combined information from 2 different persons.... in particular, I show John Hardy married to Marie Constance Fontenot (who lived until 1894 apparently) and having children born in 1836, 1838, 1840, 1842, 1844, 1846, 1847 (Ambroise, if I include him with this family), 1850, 1852, 1854, 1857, & 1859. Although Ambroise would "fit" with those children, the real problem is that I show another marriage for John Hardy: to Amy Babineaux. Does anyone know if any of the children were actually from Amy Babineaux, or even if this is the same John Hardy that married each woman? -- Charlie Hoffpauir http://web.wt.net/~charlieh/
Alma, I have a Melina Meaux b. 1853. The date would fit your Melinda. She is the daughter of Marie Emily Harrington & John Meaux. John Meaux, 35; Emily, 33; Amelia, 16; Louisa, 14; Elizabeth, 11; Belise, 9; Melina, 7; Aspasie, 5; Sarah, 3; Elmira, 2/12. Source: 1860 Vermilion Parish Census. Bonnie
Alma, Is this your Erasco Hoffpauir? I have his mother listed as Melina. I also have a Melina Meaux, but no spouse attached. Do you know who her parents were? Generation No. 5 1. James G.5 Hoffpauir (Horace4, James Hardy3, Thomas Henry2, Thomas1) was born 1854. He married (1) Melina ? Bef. 1877. He married (2) Lavinia Sarver 25 June 1883, daughter of Martin Sarver and Altha Morgan. Charlie, Thanks for the information on Erasco J. Hoffpauir. I have a feeling that Sarver was his stepmother. His obituary in the Times-Picayune in 1942 gives Melinda Meaux as his mother. I'll keep looking! Alma Reed
Alma, I don't know if this is the right E. J. Hoffpauir or not. Here's what I have: Erasco Hoffpauir, b. 27 Jan 1877 . Son of James G. Hoffpauir and Lavinia Sarver. (I'm thinking that even though I have him as the child of Lavinia Sarver, this may have been the stepmother you mention.) I don't have any other information, no brothers or sisters, and no record of where I got the information. Because I don't have a record of it, it may have come from one of the old Hoffpauir family books, perhaps the one by Lamar Boulet, or perhaps the one being updated by Buddy Hoffpauir. Both Lamar and Buddy are subscribers to the list, so maybe if this came from one of them, they will have more information, so you can tell if this is your guy or not. Hello Hoffpauirs, After several years of researching, I have located the E. J. Hoffpauir that I thought was lost forever! Do any of you anything about the following Mr. Hoffpauir? Any minute bit of information will be appreciated. E. J. Hoffpauir: Erasmo J. Hoffpauir, born 1877 [I need the date and place] died May 29, 1942 in Abbeville, LA son of James and Melinda Meaux Hoffpauir had a stepmother and two (or more) stepbrothers and may have had stepsisters that I don't know about. lived in Indian Bayou, LA in his youth was a big redhead, thus earning him the nickname, "Red." was a traveling journalist; printer 1905 - worked for the Abbeville Meridional as a printer and in 1920 became the editor until 1934 This is all I know about E. J. Hoffpauir. I would like to know where he was educated, where he lived, what his father did for a living, how E. J. became involved in printing, and if he was a Methodist. Some stories claim that he studied for the ministry. Many thanks, Alma B. Reed email: JohnR25442@aol.com
Most of you probably already know that the messages to Hoffpauir-L are archived. But now, they are much easier to reach than they were earlier. Unfortunately, not all messages have been saved, but they have all been saved since May, 1999. To look at the archives, click here. http://archiver.rootsweb.com/HOFFPAUIR-L/ Another good piece of information for those of you researching names other than Hoffpauir, is that there are many surname mail lists handled by Rootsweb, and all of them are archived too. So you can look through the archives of several mailing lists.... and you don't have to subscribe to them to look through their archives. Just replace HOFFPAUIR-L in the address above with a valid surname mail list name, and go right to the archives. If you have not registered with Rootsweb, you will be asked to do so, but there is no charge for it. -- Charlie Hoffpauir http://web.wt.net/~charlieh/
Hi Sharon, So great we are of the same line!!!! My Aunt is also still alive. The last child of Manoah HOffpauer (Meneola's brother) and Irene Hammet. She was quite close to her grandparents and says for sure Malissa was not a twin. I am intrigued by your Aunt's information. Can hardly wait for the next installment. How old is she now. My Aunt Dixie remembers her. And Aunt Ruth, Dolly etc. have all been family names since I can remember. Hello cousin Linda, How nice to hear from you again. Aunt Margie is now 73 years old. She is living in Amite, LA with her husband Ray on about 80 acres. Her son, also a Ray (named after her brother that was killed during WW2) lives not too far in MS. He and his wife have just moved into a new home and I don't have any address for them yet. Her grandson, Jeremy, is in the Navy. He plays sax in the Navy band and was recently on the aircraft carrier Enterprise while it was stationed in the Persian Gulf. Aunt Margie still plays the organ and the piano for services every Sunday in the Pine Grove Methodist Church. She is also very artistic and has designed several murals for the church. She still paints beautifully. She has recently had cataract surgery and is recovering splendidly. Hopefully, I will be hearing from her soon. I sent off a box to her last week and she very good about replying. I also sent a letter to Dr. Donald George, Susan Ruth Hoffpauir George's son by way of Aunt Margie who was raised with him. I asked her to send it along with an introduction from her. I have asked him to share some of this Hoffpauir line history with me. Aunt Margie tells me he has done extensive research. I hope he is willing. Thanks for the information on Malissa & Starkus, Cousin Sharon
Sharon, James M. Hoffpauir was the son of William Hoffpauir and Susan Welch. If you want more on this line let me know and I will be happy to send it to you. Janie
I'm sorry to sound so stupid, but where does James M Hoffpauir fit into the Hoffpauir's overall? I'm still working on becoming familiar with my Hoffpauir line and I'm totally in the dark on everyone else's. I know that I can probably look in Charlie's book, but I always get so lost in there...........Getting it all at once is rather overwhelming. Sorry, Charlie, about the millennium thing. I had just finished a conversation with one of my sons on that very subject and should have known better. LOL :) Sharon
Yes, James M. Hoffpauir and wife Lucie Abshire had 2 sets of twins. Janie Hoffpauir
Barbara, FWIW, I have the Dec 1859 date also. It is listed that way in the 1900 Census. However, I realize that the census dates are often very wrong, so her actual dob could have easily been in 1858. My only point in the earlier post was that a census taker was not likely to place twins (abt 1 or 2 years old) as born about 1 year apart. I see from this morning's post that Sharon has Malissa's dob as 1958 from her headstone. Unless someone finds a birth record somewhere, we'll probably never be absolutely sure in which year she was born. But I guess the evidence is pretty good that she and Starkus were not twins. And BTW Sharon, the new millennium doesn't start for nearly a year <g>. Sharon, As a follow-up to Charlie's census record, I can only offer the following, and I have no idea where I got it. I have Starkus as being born "abt. 1858" and Melissa as being born "December 1859." There would probably thus be enough time for them to have been born separately instead of as twins. But yes, your dad may well have said something about twins in the Hoffpauir family, because my step-grandfather Samuel Rufus ("Roy") Hoffpauir was a twin to Susan Ruth Hoffpauir (who married a Methodist minister by the last name of George). S.R. and Susan Ruth were your dad's aunt and uncle, right? Also, from my experience with other families, it does seem like twins "run in families." Any other Hoffpauir twins out there?
