    3. Sharon, This is interesting and very intriguing! As soon as I have the time, I intend to go over both of your "Hof(f)bauer" lists and see if any of those connect in any way with the offspring of our Thomas Hoffpauer that I have in my database. I suspect that they are of a different family.... but am very curious about it. So I urge everyone to post anything they can find about any of these "Hoffbauers" so we can determine if they are from our family or not. We once had a Hoffbauer researcher join the Hoffpauir-L mail list, trying to determine if he (or maybe it was a lady) was connected to the Hoffpauirs. As best I recall, he concluded that he was not, and I believe he left the list. However, if he is still a member, here's a request for help on these Hoffbauers. I know there have been Hof(f)bauers who have emigrated to the U.S. since our Thomas arrived. I don't know of any way to determine if they are related to our man or not, since we need to determine exactly where he came from, and then who his relations were in the old country, and then work toward the time of the more recent emigrations. 1. Census 2000
    2. The census web site for the long form (Informational only) is: http://www.census.gov/dmd/www/pdf/d-61b.pdf Go there and it will allow you to download the "long" form. It is only 12 pages long, compared to some 30 or so in the actual, but it omits the reiterations for six extra residents. You can correct this by printing out or photo copying the referred to questions for each person in your household. It is labeled "Information Copy" because you CANNOT submit it in place of your short form. But in case you want to fill it out and put it away for your survivors to discover someday, there it is!

    2. The Hebron Cemetary is located about 1 mile SW of the Ebenezer Cemetary. It has only 2 or 3 marked graves. Going west from th Ebenezer Church take the 1st Left then the the first Right. Stop at any house on that road & ask where it is. You will probably not find it without help. Felton

    3. Special Attn: Plans are being completed for the Gravemarking/Dedication Ceremonies for the HOFFPAUIR FAMILY REUNION to be held on LABOR DAY 2000 at the Indian Bayou Methodist Church and Cemetery. At the request of Calcasieu Chapter, NSDAR, and the Hoffpauir Family Reunion Committee, we are pleased that the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution has approved the placement of a marker in honor of THOMAS HOFFPAUIR, Patriot, who served under Galvez. We are told that only five (5) gravemarkers are approved each year by the NSDAR. We have located members of the NSDAR who have documented lineage to THOMAS HOFFPAUIR in Lafayette, Crowley, Rayne, and Lake Charles, LA, and in Houston, Texas, however, we hope to locate additional "daughters" to include them to participate in the ceremony. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated! This Milenneum 2000 celebration is of special significance to all descendants of our ancestor and expect a large attendance Further details will be developed for the observance and furnished for circulation. 2. God Bless You Sharon! I teach history at the community college in Eunice, La. I am writing a book about one of Louisiana's more esoteric writers who was married to a Hoffpauir. They had a son who ran away from home about 1920. It was rumored that he was living in Los Angeles, but no one could confirm this information since he did not keep in touch with his family. I have been on the Hoffpauir list hoping to gather more information about my subject's husband and had no hopes of finding the son. Your recent posting answered many questions since Elwood Hoffpauir, whose 1993 death was on your list, was the missing son! Is it possible for you to send me the actual title of the index book and the page number? This is such valuable information. Again, thank you for your posting! I am grateful to you. Regards, Alma B. 3. Yep, that's me! Although we were married in Contra Costa County, we got our license in San Francisco County. (San Francisco is both a city and a county, and the boundaries are identical. California schools teach that California has 58 counties, but the Federal government only credits us with 57, they don't count S.F.) Anyway, we were married in the home of my husband's sister and brother-in-law and they still live in the same house; and we have lived only a mile away from them for the past 25 years. You folks in southern Louisiana may not find that remarkable, but by California standards this is almost shocking! > >Bride: HOFFPAUIR, Barbara L.; age 25 >Groom: HILL, Curtis E.; age 27 >County: 07 (Contra Costa) >Marriage date: Aug. 3, 1969 >Reg. #: 90-4737 >state #: 104760 >

    3. Thank you, Sharon, you've just provided me with the maiden name of my stepfather's third wife, plus the date of their marriage and her age at the time, none of which I had until now! She would be indexed under both her maiden name and previous married name. I've worked with the Calif. marriage index myself and seen a lot of that. It is very helpful when trying to find a woman who has been married more than once. >Groom: HOFFPAUIR, Francis M.; age 61 >Bride: BERG, Harriet C.; age 49 * also registered under the surname STROEHL >County: 36 (San Bernardino) >Marriage date: Feb. 1, 1975 >Reg. #: 271 >State #: 13658 The listing below was sure a surprise - we used to live in Humboldt County when I was a kid, and through college - and we were the only Hoffpauirs for hundreds of miles around. 3. Three of these are mine. Francis M. Hoffpauir (Francis Marvin Hoffpauir) was my stepdad. The spouse initials HB are for his third wife, Harriet B. (I don't think I have her maiden name.) Samuel R. Hoffpauir was my step-grandfather, "Roy" Hoffpauir who was the son of Francois/Frank and Malissa Hoffpauir; twin brother of Susan Ruth Hoffpauir who married Albert George. Spouse initials GD are for my step-grandma, Gertrude Marie (Damkier) Hoffpauir. Corinne Hoffpauir was my mother, second wife of Francis M. Hoffpauir. I've privately told Sharon that the autobiography of Dollie (Hoffpauir) Mayo is a real treasure, and explained many things I had wondered about, such as why Francois/Frank moved first to northern Louisiana and then later to Fresno, California. I cannot thank her enough for posting it to the eCircles site. Can we figure out who they all are? >> I sure hope so!! And these are only from 1940 forward. I've requested a lookup for Hoffpauirs in the pre-1940 CADI. It goes back to 1905. There's supposed to be one around here in Kern Co, but so far I've not been able to lay my hands on it. There is also a Marriage index for the years 1949-1959 in book form kept at the state library. I haven't gotten to that either. I actually started out to find a place & dod for Nelson Hoffpauir, eldest son of Frank & Melissa. I have Redlands/Yucaipa area. These two towns are right next to each other in Riverside Co. There is a good volunteer for Riverside Co. and they are a county that allows transcription of DC's. Once I get the dod, I can get a DC transcription & possibly an obit. The SSDI says 1949, but he's not listed in the 1940-1949 CADI. I'm going to be in Redlands in June for a wedding and if I can find out where this elusive man is buried, I can go get a picture of his headstone & perhaps any family members. Sharon

    1. About CADI & CAMI
    2. To anyone who may want more information on those Hoffpauirs listed in the postings of the CA death index and the CA marriage index: Many counties in California allow someone to hand copy the death or marriage cert's; some don't. There are quite a few volunteers that will go and get a hand transcription. If you don't need a certified copy, this is a great help. There are also a lot of volunteers in the various counties that will look up obits, too. (I do this for Kern Co. since they are one of the ones that don't allow transcriptions) The list for NORCAL on rootsweb is particularly helpful. If you decide to order a certified copy, DON'T send to the state for it. Send to the county. You will get it either way, but the state will take about 4 months and the county will take about 2 weeks. Here is where you may find the addresses of all the counties and where to order. <http://vitalrec.com/cacounties1.html#Alameda> Sharon Dulcich
