    3. The Echols Connection I have run across a few things that I wanted to add to my discussion of the Hodges family in my series of posts a week or so ago. One is the relations with the Echols family. I think it was Linda Kmiecik that first documented this, but it is useful to help explain the relationships among the early Hodges individuals in Amelia and Halifax Counties, Virginia. Here is link to a good site on the Echols: http://www.virginians.com/redirect.htm?topics&bk A few key points: The Echols lived in Amelia County in the general area of Clementown Mills on the Appomattox River before moving to Halifax County, Virginia. Joseph Echols owned land on Owens Creek in Franklin County in the area where the Franklin County Hodges later settled. Rebecca Echols married James Hodges. Isaac Echols was a witness to several Hodges deeds Elizabeth Echols married a Murphy (possibly Richard Murphy) and was the mother of William Murphy and Joseph Murphy. Another Echols site: http://www.larkcom.net/org/ancestry/echols/history/5748.htm#5906 Note John Echols moved to Madison County, Alabama. Bob Hodges
