    3. According to Governor Winthrops Journals in what is Mass. the first Hodges in America was probably William Hodges ,a sea Captain about 1633,and his wife was Esther Gallop`s her father ,John Gallop, was a sea Captain to.They came from England and settled in Taunton Mass. As sea Captains they probably sailed the East coast as will as to England etc.The Biography of New England families V9 pages 100-101 confirms the above to. Their children were John Hodges born 1650, Henry Hodges born 1652 ,and Ann Frances Hodges .It is quite possible that John Hodges 1650-1719 ,and his wife Elizabeth Macey Hodges ,who may have had 7 sons had some that ended up in New York to the Carolinas. It is my understanding that the 7 sons names were Samuel,WILLIAM ,George ,Ebanezar, Nathaniel ,John,& Nathan. This is from others on this line as my line is Henry Hodges. I am luck to have old books on the Hodges Genealogy written in the late 1800 time frame.Several descendants have graduated from west poi! nt . One was a teacher there ,and one descendant General Douglas McArther was the head of West Point. In going back further on the familys in the 1700 time frame it should not be overlooked that they somtimes may have come from New England after migrating from England to New England.
