The rootsweb Melungeon List archives are a good site to search for all mixed blood subject matter. Another way is to search "Black Dutch" in google. An interesting take on the issue is the introduction at the following site: http://www.freeafricanamericans.com/ This is by Paul Heinegg, who has done some fantastic work with these records. He has strong and not always popular views, but you have to respect the scholarship involved. In the archives of this list are some posts dealing with Indian strains in the Hodges family. I am not aware of any such stories in my family (Franklin County, Virginia - we had only made it as far as North Carolina by the time I was born), but there are Choctaw Hodges families. Brent Kennedy, who has studied the Appalachian Melungeons, identifies Isham Hall, whose daughter Susannah married robert Hodges in Franklin County in 1791 as a Melungeon, but I don't see anything to support this. Further down the line with the Hall-Mullins marriages there is a stronger tradition (the Mullins are one of the major Melungeon families). I have toyed around with this issue for a few years without finding anything as regards my Hodges line.
