Things that make you go Hmmm Just when I thought I had this all wrapped up and tied with a bow, I saw this: Asa W. Hodges, farmer, is the son of R. S. and Mary Ann Hodges, the former of whom was born in Franklin Co., VA in 1807 & removed with his father Asa Hodges to Sumner Co., TN about 1814. He was the eldest of 9 children, only 2 of whom are living: Asa M. Hodges, a citizen of Alabama and Alfred J. Hodges, residing in Texas. R. S. Hodges was a farmer and married in Sumner Co., TN in 1829 to Mary Ann Murphy. They removed to Ohio County, KY in 1847 and were the parents of 9 children, 6 of whom are living in Ohio County. The eldest of these is the subject of this sketch -- Asa W. Hodges, born 10/3/1830in Sumner Co., TN. ..............a removal to KY., at the age of 17 .................First married to Martha Ann Flener 12/23/1858. 3 Children. This was in the archives without attribution, but it appears to be one of those biographies from the late 19th century. Ransom S. Hodges and Asa M. Hodges were sons of Asa Hodges: I.2.1 Asa Hodges b. September 17, 1783, Henry County, Virginia. Bond to marry Jemima Cockran (d. July 1832), Franklin Co., Va., February 2, 1807. Surety Samuel Cockran. Wingfield, Marriage Bonds 116. d. Sumner Co., Tenn., October 28, 1823. This particular Asa was the eldest son of Isham Hodges (son of Isham Hodges who died in Henry Count, Virginia in 1782) and Elizabeth Clay. We find Asa M. in Alabama. Guess where? http://members.aol.com/cpennin975/1850cn-h.htm Lawrence County, Alabama 1850 Census Hodges Asa M. 31M Tn. (see the Martin Privil household) Hodges Asa 26M Al. Asa M., born Tennessee 1819, sure appears to be our guy, a link right back to Franklin County, Virginia. Here is a link to the same man on WorldConnect, giving the name of his wife and a son. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:1538683&id=I3914 http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:1538683&id=I3867 http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:1538683&id=I3924 This shows he married a daughter of Daniel Merritt Hodges, although it does not give a date.
