Wife Martha; children: (1) Joseph, (2) Christina, (3) Jesse, (4) Rebecca SHAW, (5) Patty SHAW. Other legatees: Sarah GLASS (2) Toby GLASS. Wit: Reuben GOLDING, George ELLIOT, Haley SHAW, Joseph HODGES." 2. Halifax Co., VA , chancery case, Arg. 18 Jan 99. "William CARR (comp.) against William GLASS and Sarah his wife, Robert SHAW and Patsey his wife, Haley SHAW and Rebecca his wife, Jesse HODGES, Joseph Hodges, Chainey HODGES and JAMES HODGES, heirs of James HODGES dec'd " I hope to get copies of the original documents to see what else they contain. Also, I am assuming that Chainey and Christina are the same person. It is likely that James died in Newberry County, SC. I'd like to know when and why he moved from Halifax Co., VA to SC and how many of his children moved with him. My Jesse moved with his family from Pittsylvania Co, VA to Wilson Co., TN abt. 1798. All of our information about James, comes from Jesse's line and his descendants. Perhaps descendants of his other children might know more, i.e., where he came from and when he was born. There is also a question about his wife or wives. We have information that his wife was Rebecca Echols, however, the two documents above identify the wife as Martha. If you can shed any light on any of this it would be greatly appreciated. Jim Hodges
