    3. dear Birdie, that is what i have been thinking! because the will was filed in Charleston - does not mean that he moved to SC or does it? he had children in Beaufort/ Bertie, NC and supposedly only one son John Hodges decided to come to SC after Richard's death and as the story goes, help his mother with the estate. with all the Johns, Richards in Hodges lines - i am trying to determine if there is any fact to this speculation - theory. Jesse Lotta Hodges manuscript 1940. "RICHARD HODGES must have improved as he removed to the OLD CHERAWS DISTRICT of South Carolina, later known as MARLBORO DISTRICT. His sister OLIVE WIGGINS and her husband, EDMOND were already living there. RICHARD HODGES purchased land in Marlboro County and both of his sons, JOHN AND HENRY HODGES remained in Beaufort County, North Carolina." There are some Cherrys, Floyds in Marlboro Co. SC. BUT: they may have migrated at a later time if at all because there is a John Sr b 1720/30 & John Jr b 1755 in Old Cheraw from Cumberland co. NC. John Sr possible son of Thomas Hodges, has a brother William. The Richard who bought the land in Marlboro could be son of this John. Does anyone know if the Cherrys in Marlboro Co SC are the same Cherry lines in Beaufort Co. NC? Richard Hodges (aforesaid son of Robert of Bertie Co., NC) removed from Bertie to Beaufort County where he had a land grant in 1741 and he died in Beaufort prior to April 16, 1752. He married Sarah _______ who was living when he made his will Sept. 3, 1747. They had three children, viz: John, Henry & Sarah. Why ANSON Co. NC clerk involved? if he died in Beaufort.
