    1. Re: [HODGES-L] Drury Hodges
    2. Kenneth Hodge
    3. Hi Mike, Some of this info came from descendants of Drury, Wayne Langston and Wayne Hodge. Birthdates, when only the year is stated, are derived from census reports with the understanding that there are the usual census inaccuracies. Franklin Co. was formed in 1786 from Bedford and Henry Co.'s.. Henry was formed in 1777 from Pittsylvania which was formed in 1767 from Halifax. I'm not sure where Wayne found the children's births in Halifax. Many times the early settlers would go to the nearest county seat whether or not they actually resided in that county. I show Anderson as the 6th child of Drury and Diana. VI Anderson b. 1808 m. 11/25/1831 Frk. Co. sur. Joel Hodges sp. Nancy Hodges b. 1810 in Halifax Co., Va. Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, Kniffin 1st ed., 1885 Reprinted 1972 by Kentucky Reprint Co., Murray, KY. Graves Co. MARTIN B. HODGES was born April 7, 1818, in Hopkins County, Ky., and was taken by his parents, in 1822, to Calloway County, and in 1826 brought to Graves County, where he has continued to reside to the present time. He is the son of Drury Hodges, a native of Virginia, who died in Missouri. Drury's wife was Diana, daughter of George Griffith, of Virginia. He was twice married and his children are Hiram, Miriam (Farmer), George W., James, Irvine, Anderson, Matilda (Swafford), subject, Barbara (Arant), Dinah (Davidson) and Mary. Subject's educational advantages were limited, but he is a constant reader. He was married, in 1846, to Miss Louisa Cargill, of Graves County, who bore him one child, George W., and died in 1847. Mr Hodges was next married, in 1854, to Miss Nancy M., daughter of Daniel T. and Sarah (Pryor) Cargill, and the result of this union has been the birth of Bettie (Barton), Sarah F. (Stafford), Susan M., Nancy M. (Coffee), Jemmey A., Thomas B., Ella May, Jonathan and Adella. Subject is a farmer, owning eighty acres of fair land in a good state of cultivation. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity and co-operates with the Democratic party. The Drury you list in Jones Co., Ga. appears to be the following: 1. Drury (or Drewry) Hodges d. 1843 Susannah Gunn d. abt. 1846 <<Both Drury and Susannah are believed to be from North Carolina. They were probably born in the 1780's. Their Children: 1.1 Mary Hodges b. 1804 North Carolina Dennis Bradley d. Apr. 2, 1844 1.1.1 Samuel M. Hodge *** b. Mar. 10, 1821 Jones Co., GA d. Nov. 9, 1887 Jones Co., GA [note the "s" was deleted in Samuel's name] I believe that I have Wayne Langston's address if you would like to contact him. I'll send it under private E-mail if you wish.
