    1. [HODGES-L] Early Settlement Along Pigg River (part 5)
    2. Now I have introduced the cast of characters. When John Pigg came to the confluence of Pigg River, Snow Creek and Turkeycock Creek in April, 1747, he was returning to a place where he had been before. On May 21, 1741, he had made entries for two 400 acre tracts, described as "on the N.th Side of the S.th fork of Stant. River beginning opposite the Mouth of Snow C.r" and "on the S.th Side of the s.d fork beginning at the Mouth of Snow C.r". Entry Book at 5. On July 12, 1741, Thomas Caldwell, William Rogers, William Caldwell, Adam McCoule, and David Caldwell made entries in and around the forks of Snow Creek, "it being the S.th B.r of the S.th Fork of Stant. River". Entry Book at 5. The next time the south fork of Staunton River is named, in a Jan. 31, 1743 entry by William Rogers and Thomas Caldwell, it is called Pigg River ("Pig River"), and has been ever since. In my next couple of posts, I will talk about the Pigg family and the Caldwell Colony.
