This is Al Metts, Dennis Blackmon, I read your message on the list and I understand your confusion. I read with interest The Hodges Family Papers, sent in recently. I found them very interesting and useful. That Hodges family is not the same as our John Hodges family of Abbeville. We know as proved the parents of John of Abbeville and the names of his 20 children - George Washington Hodges was one. In the Hodges research, there has always been the problem that there were at least three men named John Hodges in SC during Revolutionary times. Our Richard Hodges and his wife Elizabeth Jones Hodges came from Essex County, VA, to Abbeville County. The value of the Hodges Family Papers is that they will help us in our search back in Virginia to find out where Richard was born before he wandered into Essex County and married Elizabeth (for which he was given 50 pounds sterling - eventually!) This may not be your Richard, but thought I would take a chance and post it. If it does not help you, maybe it will help someone else.
