My mother remembers her mother saying EC was orphaned while crossing the Atlantic when he was about 2, yet the two census entries I've found on him both indicate the enumerator was told he was born in Indiana. He married a daughter of his employer, a wealthy Evans whose first name no one in the family seems to remember. There's supposed to be French-Canadian in one of these two - EC or Ella Mae. I have included little on either wife to save space but will gleefully respond to anyone contacting me directly at kpickering@tnema.org to swap info on those surnames as well.
