Christine, All I know about John is what I have gleaned from the 1860, 1870, and 1880 TX census records. He was born ca 1803-1806 in either NC or SC, as he states both states at different times on the census records. I have yet to locate him in the 1850 census records, but did find his wife, Mary, living with their son, Leroy, in Bradley Co, TN. John never referred to himself as a Jr., but then he could have dropped it after his father died. His wife, Mary, states she was born in TN as was his son, Leroy (my husband's direct ancestor).
