    3. It sounds as though you are tracing the same Charles as Al. (see copy of his note below::) """ From: "Al Roach" <alroach@busprod.com> Subject: Charles Hodges Date: Fri, 19 Dec 1997 11:22:31 -0600 I am searching for further information on Charles Hodges born in S. C. about 1805. He married Mary Snider in 1834 in Union County, Illinois. They had one son, William T. Hodges born 1835 in Illinois. William T. was my great grandfather. I wonder if Charles Hodges was a brother to John L. Hodges who married Margaret Hunsacker in 1830 and Sarah Hodges who married William Hunsacker in 1833. These marriages were also in Union County, Illinois. Do you know the parents of Charles Hodges? Charles left Illinois and was in Pike Co. Alabama from 1836-1845 where he married Anna J. Basden and had four more children. Then he moved to Ouachita County, Arkansas where he lived from about 1845 till his death there in 1885. He and Anna had three more children. He married Mary F. in 1865. They had four children. Most of this large family lived in Ouachita County for many years. Charles lost his eldest son, William T. in the Civil War.""" The following is the only Hodge marriage to a Sarah Merritt that I could find. John Hodges, b abt 1775 Married 6 Jan 1800 to Sarah (Sally) Merritt, daughter of Benjamin and Eleanor (Wheaton) Merritt, in Greenville, SC. He died in Flat Rock, Henderson, NC, 24 Nov 1849. Buried North Fork Baptist Church, Greenville, SC. She died 7 Jul 1871 in Greenville, and is buried in the same church. Known as Col. John Hodges because of his activity in the SC Militia, he was a Captain in the War of 1812. John Hodges kept an inn close to the NC border in northern Greenville County. He also owned a gristmill, together with his son John W. Hodges, in the same area.
