Leonard E. Bardenhagen Died February 6, 2000 LAKE LEELANAU - Leonard E. Bardenhagen, 83, of Lake Leelanau, died Sunday at Leelanau Memorial Health Center. Born Dec. 15, 1916, in East Leland, he was the son of Elmer and Emma (Wakulat) Bardenhagen. On Sept. 28, 1960, in Leland, he married Eleaner Marie April who died in December 1998. A retired farmer from East Leland, Leonard raised strawberries and potatoes in the summer and worked at logging in the winter. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Leland. Leonard enjoyed fishing and hunting, and, after his retirement, enjoyed vegetable gardening. Survivors include his children, Duane (Betty) and Carson (Christi) Bardenhagen - both of East Leland, and Barbara (Mark) Belanger of Leland; a sister, Jane (Maurice) Scharz; two brothers, Victor (Vi) and Vernon Bardenhagen; 10 grandchildren, Jason, Jesse, Elmer, Basil, Daniel, Tony, Joseph, Joshua, Adam, and Joel; and five great-grandchildren. Leonard was also preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor K. (Gauthier), and a sister, Lucille Bach. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay; the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Leland; the Rev. Lawrence K. Matro will officiate. Burial will be in East Leland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Leland. Claire Bolton Died February 6, 2000 EMPIRE - Claire Bolton, 73, died Sunday, peacefully asleep in her home. Born Oct. 7, 1926, in Lyndhurst, N.J., she was the daughter of Alfred and Freida (Tegmeir) Hodges. On May 23, 1946, in Clinton, N.J., she married Jack Bolton. A homemaker, Claire was a resident of Empire much of her adult life. An avid gardener, she was very knowledgeable about flowers and especially loved her irises. Claire also had a passion for reading. Survivors include her husband, Jack of Empire; two children, John (SunOk) Bolton of West Milford, N.J., and Daniel Bolton of Empire; and two grandchildren, James and Thomas. Claire was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Empire United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow visitation at 11 a.m.; Pastor William McDonald will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be directed to Empire United Methodist Church or to Empire Fire and Rescue Squad.
