    1. [HODGES-L] Moses Hodges - Scioto Co., Ohio
    2. Bob Hodges
    3. I ran across this cemetery record in Scioto County, Ohio (Portsmouth area, just across the Ohio River from Kentucky). Does anyone know anything about this family? The dates for Moses are very close to what the records suggest would be the birthdate for Moses, the son of Isham Hodges who died in Henry (now Franklin) County, Va. in 1782. He would have been born Jan. 6, 1769 according to the cemetery record. When he enlisted in the army on Jan. 14, 1814, he gave his age as 44. Ransom possibly could have been a son. There was a Ransom Hodges in Giles County, Virginia in 1815 and in Kanawha County, Virginia in 1818. HODGES, Moses, died 20 January 1838, age 69 years, 14 days; native of Virginia; bur McDermit Cem, Nile twp. C10:4 HODGES, Nancy L., daughter of George Hodges and Hannah; died 16 August 1849, age 1 year, 2--, stone broken; bur Mitchell-Morrison Cem, Nile twp. NEWS:15:13 HODGES, Ransom, a farmer, born Virginia; died of cholera 12 July 1849; wife living in Scioto County, 18 miles below Portsmouth. Had been sent from Scioto County to Ohio State Penitentiary to serve term for keeping a plate for making counterfeit money; wife Massy. NEWS:7:7 [Common Pleas Court Journal 3, p. 184] HODGES, Willson, died 11 February 1839, age 1 month, 4 days; son of William Hodges and Eliza J. Grimes; bur McDermit Cem, Nile twp. C10:4; MR MA HODGES, -----, a seamstress; died of typhoid, 14 January 1858, age 33; widowed. (This might be Massy, widow of Ransom Hodges [q.v.]) ECR1:7 Here is the link: http://www.vernpaul.com/scioto/H.html Here is a link to actual cemetery records on Moses: http://www.scioto.org/Scioto/cemeteries/bolandcem.html Moses Hodges married a Burton but she appears to have been deceased by so he could have remarried. He had a son George who married Elizabeth Flowers August 25, 1808, in Giles County, Va. The George in the record could be the same, or another one. Here are some Hodges Scioto County marriage records http://www.scioto.org/Scioto/marriage/1800-1900/Ho.html In the 1820 Census of Scioto County there were two Hodges in Nile Township: Stephen 010001210110 Robert 400100001000 In the 1830 Census of Scioto County there are three Hodges. Robert 22211 0001101 Ransom 011001 21001 Aaron [m 20/30; f 15/21] Stephen is found in Washington Township. Stephen m 70/80 0010101 The names Robert and Aaron are of course the names of two of the other sons of Isham Hodges. I would appreciate any information anyone could shed on this Scioto family, particularly if they are connected to the Franklin County, Va. family. Thanks. Bob Hodges

    1. [HODGES-L] Derrick HODGES - Richland Co, Ohio
    2. Eva Kinnard
    3. Derrick HODGES was born (22 Sep 1795, according to the family Bible) in New York, the son of Eleanor Margaret and William HODGES. Eleanor's maiden name may have been CORNWELL. William HODGES and family were in Rensselaer Co, NY, in 1800. They probably lived for a time in Canada, then moved to Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co, PA, by 1810. The William HODGES family settled in Warren Co, PA, around 1814, and Derrick HODGES was living in Brokenstraw, Warren Co, PA, by 1818. He apparently remained in Warren Co, PA, until sometime after 1840. The 1840 census lists Derrick G. HODGES in Warren and Elk Twp, Warren Co, PA; but he had moved to the District of Butler, Richland Co, OH, by 1850. He was listed in the 1860 census as living in the Village of Lafayette, Butler Twp, Richland Co, OH. Known children of Derrick HODGES, Sr., and wife Sarah included: Sarah Ann HODGES, b ca 1820; Matilda Jane HODGES, b 18 Aug 1835; Derrick HODGES, Jr., b ca 1836; Maria HODGES, b ca 1839. When did Derrick HODGES, Sr., die, and what was his wife Sarah's maiden name? Other HODGES appearing in Richland Co, OH, included: Seth B. HODGES (married there in 1858), William HODGES (married there in 1862), and Luther HODGES (married there in 1867). What was their relationship (if any) to Derrick HODGES? My ancestor was Derrick's sister, Ruby Eliza HODGES -- born 4 Oct 1792, and died 10 Aug 1815, in PA, following the birth of her daughter Ruby DUGAL. Ruby DUGAL was probably taken to Ohio and raised by relatives, since she was married in Morgan Co, OH, 27 Jan 1831 to Josiah KENISON. Her grandmother, Eleanor Margaret HODGES, was living nearby. I would like to hear from anyone related to or having information about this HODGES family. I would also appreciate any information regarding Ruby DUGAL's father and his family (possibly including other children). Thanks. Eva
