Copied from the Heritage of Houston County, Georgia 1821 - 2001 "John Lorenzo and Ruby Couch HODGES John Lorenzo Hodges, son of John Hicks Hodges and Katherine Norwood Hodges, was born in Perry, Houston County, Georgia in 1885. He grew up in the printing office of his father, who was owner of the Houston Home Journal. As a boy, John learned to set type by hand. John graduated from Perry High School and then attended Business College in Atlanta. In 1915, he returned to Perry to be associated with his father. He purchased the newspaper from his father in 1924 and became publisher and editor. On May 1, 1924, John married Miss Ruby Couch of Talbot, Georgia. Ruby became his associate editor. They sold the business to Cooper Etheridge in 1946. John died November 13, 1964 after several years of illness. Ruby Hodges was the force behind the 1971 centennial issue of the Houston Home Journal. The issue was dedicated to her for her untiring efforts. John Lorenzo and Ruby Hodges are buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
