Copied from the Heritage of Houston County, Georgia 1821 - 2001 John Hicks Hodges was born September 2, 1851 in Perry, Georgia. He was the son of James Hicks Hodges, a confederate veteran and Mary Ann Rice. On January 21, 1870, John married Miss Katharine Norwood. They had ten children, two of whom died in infancy. The children who reached adulthood are as follows: General Courtney Hicks Hodges was born 5 January 1887. He married Mildred Lee, of Montgomery, Alabama. (See Courtney Hicks Hodges.) John Lorenzo Hodges married Miss Ruby Couch on May 1, 1924. (See John Lorenzo and Ruby Couch Hodges.) Sam N. Hodges, Sr. lived in Atlanta in 1971. Kate married Sam P. Houser on June 19, 1910. May married Thomas L. Hendrix on December 29, 1909. Edna married Thomas D. Mason, Sr. on January 21, 1914. A daughter married W. R. Williams and lived in Louisville, Kentucky. Teresa Hodges never married and died in 1970. John H. Hodges was postmaster of Perry born 1915 until 1923. He also served as Mayor of Perry, City Councilman and school trustee at various times. He was a member of Perry Methodist Church, where he served as steward, trustee and secretary. John died March 11, 1926 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Perry.
