The deceased was a graduate of the South Carolina College, and was one of the most zealous and useful clergymen in the state. He gloried in nothing save the cross of Christ and the salvation of mankind. A few weeks before his death, the companion of his bosom died in Fairfield District, leaving several small children (ibid.). The deceased was born in Greenock, Scotland, March 20th, 1810, and at the age of five came with his father to the United States. his father settled at Scotch Cross, Abbeville District, S. C. Peter McKellar went to school in Spartanburg County. Maj. McKellar was twice married. His first wife was Miss Agnes Lipscomb, and after her death he married Miss Almina Sale. Nathaniel Vance (1753-1812) served as private in the North Carolina troops; was wounded at the battle of Camden; captured and imprisoned at Guilford Court House.
