Loraine, Actually Major could be his first name. I have come upon this name several times as a first name. One I recall just off hand is a Major Henderson Alley, Sr. and his son Major Henderson Alley, Jr. I would search this out befor looking for another name, UNLESS OF COURSE you know for sure he carried the military title of Major.
